We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiana Tyler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiana, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
There are many habits I have that have helped me succeed, but I think planning has been habit that has paid off the most for me. I believe it is important to always have a plan. Whether it is a plan to make it through out the day, or a 5-10 year goal plan, it doesn’t matter! Planning helps you to stay organized and focused on the end goal. I plan everything. I find myself making a list for some of the smallest task, but I believe it is essential to making it throughout my day.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love to say that I’m a jack of all trades. What sets me apart from other event decorators is that I do more than just events. I specialize in interior decoration as well. I love that my clients are able to invite me into their spaces and recreate their most unique ideas. What I’m most proud of with Designs by Tiana T., is that we have doubled the amount of clients serviced than our yearly goal that was set. Professionally, I got to where I am today by sticking to the plan and not giving up on myself. One may be surprised at how much they can achieve with the right discipline, right mindset , and the right team behind you. It has not easy. Running a business will cost you late nights and early mornings, and often times it can be hard to take a break. I’ve learned to put in the work in my industry and continue to study and perfect my craft. Networking is key and can allow you to work into rooms that you’ve only dreamed of. There are many lessons that I have learned, but one that has stuck with me is that I have to keep going. I continued to promote my business when I felt that others weren’t interested or watching me. I learned during my most challenging seasons, that having confidence in yourself can go along way. Running a business is all about betting on yourself. Each day I am able to bet on myself, and win.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re in the Dallas area, I would recommend taking a walk down bishops arts.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a huge shoutout to my family and friends. They help me to stay creative and on my toes to say the lease. I take pride in saying my business is family-operated, because they have all played a part in making my events memorable. The guidance and influences that I have around me have allowed me to stay grounded. I appreciate those moments when I can get my team together, discuss the task that we have to do, and watch them execute it with no questions asked. In the event decorating industry, team work is a key component to pulling off a successful event. There can be so many unforeseen circumstances that will take place on the day of my client’s event, but we work so well together to get the job done. My family and friends continue to push me to be great.
