We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Tumminia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theresa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk plays a significant role in both the workplace and the journey of being a successful social entrepreneur, regardless of gender. However, for women, navigating these spaces may present additional challenges due to societal expectations, biases, and historical gender roles. Risk has shaped my success and set the stage for comeback through failure. While risk is inherent in both the workplace and social entrepreneurship, the unique challenges faced by women necessitate a nuanced approach. Overcoming gender biases, building resilience, and strategically navigating risks are crucial elements in the journey of successful women in these fields all equate to one defining factor of RISK.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work resume is focused on policy driven initiatives. My dream job would be Chief of Strategy and Impact on a campaign that changed the system in a positive way. What sets me apart is my ability to overcome adversity in a positive way.
Proud of my daughter.
Excited about the future and the next presidential election.
How did I get here? My passion to continue to grow and evolve. I am loyal to growing and I believe that movement is life. I got here by getting up everyday and doing the work. I got here by proclaiming integrity as my religion and devoting my time to service. I got here by leaning on my ancestors, my tribe and blind faith that my body will continue on no matter what I put it through. I got here roaring in heels.
was it easy? That parts that were easy were the parts that made it worth it for me. Being a mother, a domestic partner, before and after chemo, where the parts that were easy and made me who I am.
She overcame challenges will be engraved on my tombstone and studied in top tier afterschool programs across the Bible Belt as a mandatory Diversity and Inclusion program.
lessons learned 1.
Tradition becomes our security, and when the mind is secure it is in decay. Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.
2. Stay grounded culturally, but there is an elephant who runs a buffalo herd, so if you don’t have one, find your own. 3. your relationship with money should be the dictator for your relationship with your therapist.
what do you want the world to know about your brand or story is about diversity. Diversity fosters a rich tapestry of perspectives, encouraging open-mindedness and understanding among individuals and communities. diversity is a powerful force for positive change, fostering mutual respect, tolerance, and the appreciation of the richness that comes from human differences…especially when women are included, celebrated and given leadership roles.
