We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Fennell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theresa, how do you think about risk?
I think that starting a business in itself is a risk but early on, I took small and safe risks with investing money into my business. I had quit my job and was scared to throw all of my money into the business. It took me some time to realize that I needed to take more risks and trust myself. I’m glad that I finally decided to take bigger risks and it provided even bigger returns and my business has continued to grow every since then. Now, I don’t question myself as much.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my clothing boutique in 2016 as a small online retailer. After learning the ins and outs of business, I was able to scale up to becoming a large store owner. The journey was tough, but I have learned so much along the way and I’m thankful for that. When I think that I’m not doing enough, I have to remind myself where I started. When I look back, that is what makes me the most proud. There was a time that I could pack my entire business into my car and travel but now, I’ve had so much growth that I’ve upsized my warehouse location 3 times. That definitely makes me excited for my future. Overcoming challenges comes from putting in the work and finding new ways to do things. It involves knowing that business constantly evolves and there will be times that you have to be uncomfortable while you change with it. My biggest lesson learned in business is to try be ready for anything that can come your way and consistency wins the race.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had to show someone a good time in Dallas, I’m going to do my best to convince them to try vegan food with me lol I would take them by Vegan Food House, the Compatible Delights food-truck, and there is a new place I’ve tried that just won me over called Vegans Heat. If it’s during basketball season, I would take them to a Mavericks game and if it’s football season, catch a football game. I’m not the biggest football fan but the crowd is top-tier entertainment and it’s always a good vibe. There are really good bars close to the stadium. Texas Live is great. The Sweet Tooth Hotel is a nice exhibit to visit and take cool selfies. I also like to go by The Fabrication Yard and take good graffiti pics, we love good content. As for nightlife, I like to see if any good concerts are happening or live music. If nothing, deep ellum for the vibes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have had so many people who have believed in me and have always told me that I could do anything that I set my mind to. I want to send a big shoutout to my family and friends who have been encouraging and supportive to my vision. There are so many people that I could name. I have amazing support pouring in from Denver. Some of my most pivotal moments of transition have been fueled by starting conversations with strangers so, be kind to people and they will be kind to you. I would also like to thank all of my supporters for believing in me because my business would not exist without my clients and customers, they keep me going!
