We had the good fortune of connecting with The Gut Goddess Gabrielle Grandell, BSc,FMCHC,CLT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Gut Goddess, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business emerged from a belief in a holistic approach to healing—one that merges science and spirituality in a way that mainstream methods often don’t address. I saw a gap in the digestive wellness space that required more than standard protocols; it needed deep, integrative support for both the body and spirit. This vision pushed me to create a space where clients could receive care that nurtures all aspects of their well-being, leading to transformations that honor each person’s unique journey toward health.

Deciding to become a business owner was also born from the desire to create a life where I could serve others with purpose, and truly feel the freedom to live in alignment with my values. I’ve been able to craft a schedule that brings balance to my own health and wellness, which in turn allows me to be fully present for my clients. I wanted to build a business where I could work with intention, to have the ability and knowledge to support people wherever they are, and to foster a sense of “health freedom” for us all.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As The Gut Goddess, I’ve made it my mission to support people in healing from digestive disorders and autoimmune conditions through encouraging them in practicing and tapping into their faith instead of fear. To walk alongside them as they discover their own agency and ability. My practice stands out because it goes beyond conventional methods, weaving together functional nutrition with evidence-based science and health coaching to understand what is at the root of their symptoms. For me, gut health is not only about symptom relief but about aligning the body and spirit, creating true, lasting well-being from within.

The journey to building my business hasn’t been easy, but it’s been profoundly fulfilling. Starting my own practice in 2020, was an experience unlike any other. With the world shifting overnight, stepping into entrepreneurship that year required an incredible amount of adaptability and resilience. As the global landscape changed, so did the way we all viewed work, health, and connection. Launching a business during such an unpredictable time wasn’t easy, but it offered a unique opportunity to help people find stability and support when it was needed most. For me, the uncertainty and challenges of 2020 were also a call to focus on what really mattered: health, freedom, and a holistic approach to well-being. Many people were searching for ways to feel empowered in their health, especially with so much emphasis on resilience and immunity. It felt more important than ever to create a space where clients could feel supported in taking control of their health span amidst the chaos. Starting my business during this period also highlighted the importance of flexibility. I had to reimagine the way I served clients, adapting to new ways of connecting and meeting their needs in an increasingly digital world. Every obstacle taught me to trust my intuition, listen to my clients, and stay deeply committed to my purpose of helping people live in harmony with their bodies. Building something meaningful in such a transformative year resulted in me embracing that while we often do not control what’s happening around us, we can create something powerful and lasting by staying true to our purpose. And for that, I am deeply grateful.

Each person has a unique path to wellness, and my role is to help them tune into their own body’s wisdom while grounding it in scientific principles. Through my brand, I want to show the world that true health is about balance—honoring the physical and the spiritual, science and intuition, structure and flow. I’m excited to continue helping people to transform their own lives! This is a sacred responsibility that I am incredibly honored and humbled to be trusted with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There would have to be delicious healthy food and time in nature with some music and dancing mixed in! We would spend the day amongst the trees out walking the trails of Arbor Hills or Oak Point Nature Preserve or maybe even around White Rock Lake or witness the beauty of the Dallas Arboretum.
Some of the restaurants I would enjoy with them would be Flowerchild; Origin Kitchen + Bar; True Food Kitchen; HG Sply; Written by the Seasons and of course some yummy seafood and Latin vibes are a must.
Though I do occasionally partake in a cocktail or two, I also really appreciate establishments that offer mocktails like Bulla Gastrobar; The Mexican; Paradiso and Whiskey Cake.
Later that night you could find us out listening to some live music and dancing at places like It’ll Do Club, Dada or Truth and Alibi in Deep Ellum; Revelers Hall in Bishop Arts; The Mansion, Te Deseo or House of Blues in Dallas and maybe even a little line dancing at Cowboys Red River to complete the Texas experience.
I would have to incorporate an experience in the Fort Worth Stockyards before they left as well!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are several people that I have been blessed by and grateful to know throughout my life. I would like to dedicate this shoutout to three women who most greatly influenced the position I am in now.

My mother has always been my biggest fan and continues to shape the woman I am through her love and strength. She has encouraged my independence and dedication to health, and desire to grow.

The other two women I want to give a shoutout to are Dr. Margaret Christensen and Dr. Betty Murray. These incredible mentors have been absolutely instrumental in my journey. Dr. Christensen, or Dr. C as I affectionately call her, was the spark that introduced me to the world of Functional Medicine and taught me so much over the years we worked together and still does to this day! She guided me through my very first functional nutrition consultations and allowed me to discover what true health care meant. Her expertise and vision helped lay the foundation for the work I’m passionate about today.

Dr. Betty Murray is a fellow functional nutritionist who turned PhD and a pioneer in our field. She has so much respect from me for starting the first Functional Medicine clinic in Dallas, TX and one of the most intelligent and driven women I have had the pleasure of personally knowing. She is an amazing entrepreneur and full of tenacity and dedication. She continues to help me build my business and share her knowledge and gifts for which I am eternally grateful.

These women have set a standard for excellence and compassion, and their unwavering support, mentorship, love and friendship have been a beacon for me.
