We had the good fortune of connecting with The Chapman Brothers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Chapman Brothers, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
We chose this career not only because we’re passionate about music, but because it’s in our blood. Our father introduced us to music at a young age, and we immediately fell in love. We’re also naturally quick learners and not afraid of the spotlight, so all of these combined factors made an artistic career not only passion-driven, but a necessity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the things that makes us unique is the fact that there are very few – if any – steel pan/keyboard bands that consist of a setup of brothers. We started playing as a band from the ages of 6 and 8, but started navigating things from a professional standpoint in our teenage years. It wasn’t easy at all – life was pulling us in two separate directions during the transition from high school to college, and we started to consider that maybe this band just wasn’t meant to be a long-term investment for us.

However, we made sacrifices and pushed through because we believed in what we had, and found satisfaction whenever people connected with our music. We want the world to know that the combination of resilience and talent = success, and because of that, people will naturally be drawn to you. Everyone loves a success story!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of our favorite spots to hang out at are Dumbo in Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Museum. Peppa’s, a Jamaican restaurant, has some of the best jerk chicken in the US. Singh’s is a Trinidadian food spot located in Queens that tastes really good as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to dedicate a shoutout to God and our parents. God gave us the abilities and the talent, and our parents brought those out of us. We wouldn’t be as blessed as we are without them.
