We had the good fortune of connecting with That They May Studio Mari and Joshua King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi That They May Studio, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Nothing is a mistake. There’s no win and no fail. There’s only make – Sister Corita Kent
It’s always been a form of creative freedom for my artistic process. It silences the inner voice of self-censorship.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our art evolves with the concepts of time, material, meaning and choice and how they’re Intertwined together in the battle between freewill and fate.
Our work is set apart from others by multiple landscapes the work crosses. Land, canvas, fabric and light are our main sites and materials we use in creating our work.
Is it easy? NO, nothing great ever is. Everyday we wake up and figure out the balance between life, pleasure and art. Along with each day is a new challenge, which is what excites me. The biggest challenge in the arts is to not quit. Everything in todays society wants you to quit, so you can become a cog in the wheel of life.
If we’ve learned anything it is to not go it alone. Today’s structure takes collaboration and teamwork.
We want the world to know that there are millions of moments, choices, and people who have changed your life and our studio is working to tell those stories.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
