We had the good fortune of connecting with Thanh Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thanh, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Most people just give up too soon. Always have a plan and drive to a different tactic if one doesn’t work. Have an end goal and be passionate about it. There are a lot of things you can do just by wanting it more than anyone else & sticking with it when most people want to quit. People quit because it’s hard. But that’s life! EXPECT IT TO BE HARD. That way when you do face the challenge, it’s not all surprising to you. Find a good foundation, build onto it, and congratulate yourself and others. Not only is it good to keep going but to also have a good life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an independent florist based here in Frisco, TX! I started 5 years ago; 2 years freelance and 3 years professionally. I am most proud of my feature at Dillards for a ‘Build your own Bouquet Bar’ and having a spot at the Dallas Farmers Market, Dallas Arboretum, and Kittenish!

Honestly if I look back 5 years ago, I would be so proud of where I am at now. I’ve had a lot of people doubt and second guess my route in life but this has made me the strongest and happiest I’ve ever been! Starting out in my tiny one bedroom apartment to now owning a studio with multiple opportunities than just weddings coming my way! Some challenges like budgeting and hiring more labor was tedious at times but it helped me learn how to be on top of myself. A business should be treated like it’s a baby! You have to nurture it, care for it, and want the best for it! At the end of the day, I want to be left good intentions behind my work and make clients feel a certain way when you look at my services.

My goal is to always be open-minded, learning new ways to manage my business and create openly with my floral designs. I am a strong believer in adapting to what the eye sees to feel the best decision.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a fun question! Honestly, I am a NERD when it comes to culture and food. I love to go to different food/drink festivals based here in Dallas.

My first stop would be Ari Korean BBQ, the real stuff! I would then take my best friend to all the festivals like Thai, Greek, Romanian, etc.

The most fun and interesting places would probably be antique thrifting stores! Buffalo Exchange, Dolly Python, even estate sales are cool to look at.

Exciting people are everywhere! You just have to find the right ones in Dallas. There’s always a group for everyone and different places to check out. I always say be open to the environment, you never know what you might like!
