We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrill Binion and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrill, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process when starting my business was to create a business that could be a consistent need in everyday life. Also, I wanted to offer a service within the community I serve because of my background in social services. that would provide my clients an outlet to be able to relax in a calm environment.
What should our readers know about your business?
Diamond Lyfe Kutz is an upscale professional barber studio that provides a clean, safe, and peaceful environment that makes your feel at home. We provide a complimentary refreshment or healthy snack for clients as they enter or to take with them while they exit the salon. My journey started, in 2006 after suffering a torn ACL and Meniscus knee injury from playing professional basketball over seas. I wanted to start something new that I could be passionate about like basketball, that is when I decided to enroll in barber school. Becoming a barber was easy for me because this is what I wanted to do and I found a pleasure in being able to improve a person’s appearance. In the beginning it was not easy because in the early 200’s there was not any form of social media to help promote yourself. You had to actually go out and put your business cards or flyers in peoples hand. This process taught me patience because I was under the impression that all you had to do was tell people you were a barber and they would give you a chance. I overcame the struggle in gaining business the same way I did when playing basketball. You have to practice to become consistent so that people can see that you’re good at what you do and be willing to give you an opportunity. The lesson I learned along the way is that if you want something you have to put the work in even when others don’t see you working to be the best version of you that you can be.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city of Dallas are taking someone to Del Friso’s to eat dinner, then to reunion tower to look over the entire city. Then I would take a tour of the AT&T stadium before indulging in the night life of Deep Ellum or Uptown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I would like to give all glory to God for allowing my business to prosper. Second, I would also like to give a shout to my wife for being supportive and offering her expertise in helping me to enhance my vision to expand my brand. Lastly, I would like to shoutout all the barber influencers that took time to offer me advice and tips to improve my skill.
