Hi Terra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my own business, my thought was to take all of my years of experience and knowledge and fill a gap in the entrepreneur world. Based on SBA statistics, my experience in the accounting and operations field could provide a solution and improve the success rate of small business owners. So with planning, prayer, and determination, I started my business. The planning process included establishing a business name, logo, bank account, email address, website, social media profiles, and eventually a mentor to follow. However, my do-over about this process would be to establish a business plan, first. As business owners, we must generate revenue and actually have a plan based on the services and products we offer to do it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Fontenot and Associates Solutions, LLC is a full-service accounting and business operations outsourcing firm for service-based businesses. We are uniquely designed because we offer our start-ups, entrepreneurs, and business leaders a way out of the back-office work. Our solutions give them back their time, helps improve internal inefficiencies as well as increasing revenue. I am so proud of the difference we make for business leaders. We give them the opportunity to focus on building a successful business instead of working in the business.

My journey in business started with my educational background In Accounting combined with Corporate America entry-level and managerial roles. Through the years of experience, I found out what I loved the most and how I could utilize my skills to not only create a world of freedom for myself but to also support the dreams of others across the world. The road has not always been easy because while finances and operations are key to having a business, it is not the most favorable topic business leaders like to share or discuss. Our goal is to personalize each experience and ensure our clients that they are in a “no judgment” zone.

Along the way, I’ve learned that as your own boss, you must learn what your clients need because that will help determine how and where you show up. Everyone’s plan is not your plan. Write your own plan and be realistic on how you plan to accomplish your financial goals as well as meet customer needs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I have friends, family or clients visit the huge city of Houston I would start off with taking them out to eat at the top 5 places to visit. We would have such a great time being a foodie that we would then take time out to visit Galveston, Texas. Fun in the sun must be enjoyed with a walk on the beach and sand on our toes. In Galveston, they have fun places like Pleasure Pier and Moody Gardens so we would definitely visit them in the afternoon when it cools off. I enjoy music, so a night of Jazz or R&B would be a great night in Downtown Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my sister, Kamisha Tatum for her love and for picking up the phone when I called. Becoming a business owner takes gut, grit, tears, and someone you can reach out to when you are not able to pick yourself up or need a reminder of just how great you are.
