Meet Teimesha Holland: Baker and Humanitarian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Teimesha Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teimesha, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Fort Worth, TX and my sister and I were raised by a single mother that I must say, did an amazing job. My mother had me at the age of 17, so she had a lot of growing up to do along side of me. She was/is a resilient and strong woman. I had the privilege of seeing her in action which led me to not only wanting to be like her, but wanting to be better. With her having only a 9th grade education, I had to make sure that I made her proud by giving her the only thing that she ever asked of us, a high school diploma. I saw my mother give her literal last to anyone in need and that example of a heart of gold reflected on me. I have a servants heart and my passion in life has and will always be, to help those that are less fortunate and those that can’t help themselves. I now work at a local non profit helping to house the homeless. But it doesn’t stop there. I own and operate Taylor Made Treats, a small homebased bakery and I take most of the profits from that to feed the homeless throughout the year and make “essential” bags for them twice a year. I have also taken in most of my children’s friends if they are in need of some motherly love or just love all around. I’ve always made my home a “safe place” free of judgement and open to those that may need a meal or just a shoulder to cry on. Being a lupus warrior (my mother is too) and a single mother to two teens has made some of these things hard to do, but as stated before, my mother and life has taught me to be a fighter, resilient and very persistent. I only pray that my own children continue to follow the examples set before them and lead a life of helping those in need in some way.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a baker came so unexpectedly. One day I was on the PTA and a room mom baking for the class and next thing I know, I was taking orders and getting my permit. I was not easy getting started. I was scared that no one would like the things I made or that no one would place orders. But I had my first bake sale to introduce myself and my products and I was surprised that I sold out in 2 days. I have learned over the years that you will fail, you’re supposed to fail. But it’s up to you to turn those failures into lessons and turn them around for good.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As crazy as it sounds, I am a total introvert so I don’t get out much. And being a cook, I don’t eat out much. But I am a total geek and love museums. That’s what I do in my free time. I would take them to all of the local museums that I enjoy. Day 1: eat at Babe’s (a wonderful little sit down family style place that has some of the best fried chicken) Visit the Kimble Art Museum Day 2: order BBQ from a friend that owns Koleman’s BBQ Visit the Palace of Wax Museum Day 3: eat at Dixie House Visit the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History Day 4: eat at Our Place (some of the best breakfast around) Visit the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum Day 5: Enjoy some of my home cooking Go to Chuck E Cheese’s or something like it (hey, I’m still a big kid at heart) Day 6: Eat at Zero Degree and get some elotes and carne asada fries Visit the Dallas Aquarium Day 7: I will cook breakfast and lunch Go listen to a friend, DJ Pharoah spin and have good and greasy bar food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to thank my wonderful mother Karen Holland for always being there for me, being my biggest cheerleader, especially in the hard times even though she is fighting her own fight. I want to thank my two children Keiana and Kyshun Taylor for being my everyday motivation. Every day that I wake and do what I do, is to make them proud to call me mom.
