We had the good fortune of connecting with Tandis Esfandiari and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tandis, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve always looked at risks as opportunities. Chances are, your new idea is innovative and original. Once I started making some sales locally, I invested all of my earnings back into getting content for social media, new inventory, and website design. One of the biggest risks I took in my business was relying solely on social media for my marketing. Back in 2014/2015, influencer marketing was a rather new concept. Luckily, 14-year-old Tandis was also a budding influencer. I was able to learn how to approach other influencers through my own experiences. While most companies were still relying on trade shows and mailer advertisements, I spent my capital on influencers. This was one of the best decisions I could make because I was able to reach demographics around the world. I believe risk is inevitable in any business. Most of my success has resulted from risk. Although there is no guarantee that all original ideas or new product lines will prosper, it is always worth a try (with reason!).
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ttejewelry was founded in 2015 in Maryland. I was a freshman in high school who had a passion for DIY projects, one being creating my own jewelry. I would make beaded chokers and bracelets and wear them around school. Girls started asking me where I got the pieces from and my response was “I made them!”. This frequently asked question encouraged me to start selling them to my classmates. 5+ years later, Ttejewelry is still growing strong. Some of the challenges have been balancing my work and school. I am also an influencer, student, and model so time allocation for jewelry is crucial. I am very grateful to have started my business when I was 14. The younger you start to follow your passions, the better! I was able to make a lot of mistakes early on that have paved the way for my ventures today. I would like the world to know that Ttejewelry is a brand for all. Our pieces are elegant, affordable, and durable.
