We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamira Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamira, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a cohost of the GAUDS show, my goal is to lead conversations that our culture and black community needs to be having; whether it be about education or finances ….to the roles fathers play in the family. I want to provide diverse, educational, entertaining conversation that inspires people to be more comfortable. I want us as a community to talk about sensitive topics more and feel equipped to have the harder conversations.

Aside from my role on the GAUDS, Show I have a nonprofit call with love from Harlem that tries to give back in nontraditional ways and support the black and brown communities in Harlem and the Bronx. For example, in the winter will give out “winter kits”, which includes socks, hats, gloves, and in the summer we do hygiene kits with deodorant, toothpaste things that we  tend to take for granted that people on the streets need to survive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I went to school for public relations ans journalism. right out of college I interned at power 105.1 I worked with everyone from the breakfast club to DJ club. Soon after that, I decided to move to Atlanta and networking really landed me where I am today.
Everything happens for a reason Anything negative or traumatic that’s happening in your life is meant to teach you a lesson …. I’m flight for all the little black girls from the hood who don’t speak the queens English, who didn’t go to privet schools, who grew up in a single parent household but still want to change the world.
A combination of dedication to my community and a passion for media lead me to where I am today. A year ago I was in New York, working for a nonprofit and got fired because I wouldn’t get vaccinated. It was devastating because I thought I was finally doing what God called me to do but as devastating as that was another door opened in God had a bigger plan for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ray daniels my mental and partner, and the god show. I’m thankful that he gave me a chance and saw the potential in me from day one even when I didn’t see it myself he’s always told me I was a star and I won’t forget that.

Kim Landon college was an experience for me going to a PWI. It was nice to have a professor in my corner that fought for me and spoke life into me, and always believed in me even when I wasn’t a straight a student, she always make me feel special and that I could do anything if I set my mind to it.

I was a horrible teenager so shout out to my mom for raising me and giving me the world and never giving up on me and always having a safe space for me to fall back on which allowed me to explore so many careers and opportunities.
Four agreements, I’ve read 1 million bucks in my lifetime, but if I can only read one book, this would be the one.
