Meet Tamara Shaw | Holistic Care Practitioner for Pets and People

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Shaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was excited about starting my own business and my main focus wasn’t about worrying about ‘starting a business,’ the paperwork was easy and creating something was exciting, my focus was entirely on what I needed to have and to learn to become more skilled. My focus was on helping as many animals as possible. I searched out the best in the field from around the world. I loved it so much that the more skilled I became inspired me to learning more. My passion guided me every step of the way. As soon as I had my first taste of helping an animal, I was hooked. No one could tell me that it wouldn’t work. In fact, I heard a lot of jokes about massaging horses. At a very early age I had decided to do what I love, and the money would follow. Even though I wouldn’t call it “work” I spent most evenings and weekends learning and working on animals. Bottomline, even if the numbers hadn’t worked out on my spreadsheet, and with all the nay-sayers, there was nothing that was going to keep me from following my passion.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Osteo-Tam Holistic Services specializes in working with pets and people. An athlete myself, I understand the importance in keeping oneself in peak performance. And it is easy to do naturally. Beginning with therapeutic massage for animals, I developed a sensitivity in my hands. Reiki, the ancient Japanese technique for hands-on healing, enhanced this sensitivity. I continued learning other bodywork techniques like acupuncture/acupressure, cold laser, magnetic therapy and more. People love to see us working with machines, but the reality is that if we are not careful, machines can do unforeseen damage, where after you have a sensitivity in your hands, you are guaranteed not to hurt an person or pet. I did in-depth independent studies of flower essences, herbal remedies, essential oils for all animals. I worked on all animals, horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, exotic birds). It has always been diverse and amazing. However, something very cool began to happen after learning Reiki and while doing bodywork, I began to feel emotional releases from the animals and get visual, kind of like telepathic downloads from the animal. I could feel when they were fixed, I could understand what the owner was doing that might be causing their horse to have pain, and I became aware of the emotional connection to the illness. I studied Louise Hay – You can heal your life. And Acupuncture meridians and stress points became my “map” for helping to heal my patients on a deeper level. I could tell which points were stressed on various meridians and counsel them to what to do to reinforce their bodies, naturally. My business grew and evolved with my spiritual growth. I became a homeopath. Homeopathy helps your body heal by asking your body to get stronger. It also helps to heal the emotional connection to the illness. It has no adverse reactions with medicine and it works. People say it is just sugar. My argument is that it works on animals and it was tested on humans. 🙂
Over the years, my business has evolved and specializes on the emotional connection to our animal’s illnesses and pain. Natural Remedies for Dog Anxieties was created to help our fur babies that our anxious and/or acting out. Did you know that 9 out of 10 of my clients and their owners have the same illnesses/pain as their owners? I am currently doing my master thesis on this subject.
Lessons I have learned on the way. Even though it is my goal to help all of the owners and their pets in the world, what I do is not for everyone and there is no sense in wasting too much time trying to convince people. The people who are ready and likeminded people always find me.
Opening a clinic in France was probably the most challenging part of my career. Learning to speak the language and how to market was difficult. However, with this type of job, where you are helping people and animals, people are thankful and word-of-mouth spread quickly.
I would love to share with everyone that I have created many online courses for people who are interested in learning natural ways to help their pets. When they help their pets, their bonds grow deeper. There are general free courses and the occasional webinar. There are certification courses. And I am looking for a handful of people that would like to become practitioners. Our courses include bodywork with a focus on balancing mind, body and spirit. I am also available for events and love to travel.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I guess I would say to go to the Stockyards in Fort Worth, visit downtown Dallas, go jet-skiing on the lake, hike around Eagle Mountain Lake then eat the best BBQ at Local Craft BBQ in Newark.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
