We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Meyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Well, there are a few things… with all things the one thing I do in common that helps the community is by helping others face fear and become a better version of themselves. I do events. Not just events, but My husband and I help the community by giving them an opportunity to experience, learn, and grow. The great experiences we provide sheds a positive light on our industry and helps change people’s minds about reptiles and “exotics”. Believe it or not, there are those who actually do not like these animals based on JUST fear. Our goal is to help change people’s minds and turn their fears into fascination. With these great experiences, we strike passion. We educate the public about these great creatures and what we can do to be responsible keepers. We want more people to care about and love these animals instead of fearing them. We promote reptile owners to be responsible keepers.
When it comes to the the pole industry, I have a studio and run pole expos. We do a lot of charity through the studio such as collecting school supplies for local teachers, gathering surrounding studios to participate with us in food drives, and donating a portion of our proceeds to local charities. The best part and most rewarding part of this industry is being able to help others find their confidence, to give them a safe place to explore themselves and become comfortable with who they are. We help students make deep connections with each other within our studio and through our events. The goal that we strive to accomplish is to connect our community and share moving experiences while celebrating diverse local artists and their expressions for pole fitness and artistry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am proud to say that everything that I have created with my husband has been from scratch. The entire way to where I am has not been easy. It’s like trying to pull a wagon with rectangle shaped wheels uphill, full of rocks, all while trying to keep a massive bolder from pushing you back down the hill. The best way I found to overcome challenges is to just keep going, adapt, and never give up. Always take a look from another perspective and ask for help. Most importantly, I have learned that being different is not a weakness. Uniqueness is a strength. How we see strengths and weaknesses is all about perception. We should never resist our own strengths just because of the way others might view and judge our uniqueness.

I want the world to know that decisions should never be made based on fear. Fear is a perception. We should not fear something that is considered uncommon. We should never make decisions based on our own or someone else’s fear…
Especially when those decisions can effect our happiness and the happiness of those around us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Normally when a friend wants to come over they are considered brave by THEIR friends. I would first show them around the pole studio for some pole play and give them a little lesson. They would have one heck of a time learning all the cool things they didn’t know they were capable of doing!

We would feed tortoises and listen to them crunch on fresh fruits and veggies. Visiting the ringtail lemurs would be another fun thing we would do. I would laugh as the 2 lemur boys would pull grapes from my friends hand and check my friend’s nose and ears to make sure they aren’t hiding anymore goodies.

I would take my bestie to the reptile expo and show them around some cool people and some REALLY cool animals. They wouldn’t leave without a phone full of really cool selfies with lizards, spiders, and more!

We would hike in the state park and sight see all of the wildlife. Find a great spot to put aerial apparatus and probably swing around until our arms and legs felt like noodles.

We would finish the week with some breakfast! I would make some tasty cinnamon rolls in the waffle maker and spend the rest of our day at the Midwest Pole Expo!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my mother for inspiring me with her strength. Also, for all of my genuine friends who support me with whatever crazy idea I have.
