Meet T-Shawn | Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with T-Shawn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi T-Shawn, how do you define success?
For me success is the moment where you see your work brought to fruition exactly as you envisioned it. I have had moments in which I felt I was successful, only to see it fall apart because my foundation wasn’t built properly. Be it a cut corner, or an act of settling I realize that I have experienced what I like to call temporary success. Experiencing that however, I now understand success is when you push your vision to it’s fullest potential and beyond.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Alright so my name is T-Shawn, I am an artist from Dallas TX, I am 6 foot 4, which makes me completely different than most people you see on the street. But I think what sets me apart besides my actual physical attributes would be the fact that I think that there is a different way to do everything. I have lived my entire life being told you cannot do music, and if not that I can’t, then they secretly feel that I’m not supposed to. Everyone seems to have an idea of what I should be doing and how I should do it, but I honestly have always felt like I can be counter cultural, that I can be completely different than everybody else. I use the term countercultural because my pastor recently spoke about it, but I honestly believe that there is a way to do everything different. From promotion and advertising to reaching out to fans to having an actual conversation, there’s room for different. Currently I am most Proud and excited about my new project Dash. It is an amazing Ep. There are only two songs, but I have put so much into these two songs that I think people will enjoy every moment that they listen to it. I honestly was able to get to where I am today by taking a lot of risks. Be it either not working, or if I was working, staying up late at night during college to do music instead of studying. Then cram all my studies into one session in the morning and barley pass the test. I have spent my entire life taking calculated risk, and so far, I would say they have paid off to the to the tune millions of streams. My life only took a turn for the worse when I stopped taking those risks and started playing it safe, and my music took a hit for it. I am finally coming out of that period right now, and I am excited to see what is next to come. The biggest lesson I learned along the way is stay true to yourself, don’t let people try to influence every decision you make. You must be your own self man or woman and Seek God first in everything you do. When you seek him first, he’ll lead you to the people that can guide you, and mold you, instead spinning your wheels looking for an opportunity with anybody you meet. My motto is “Let’s Build Together” and I think building together is the entire purpose of why we’re all on earth. That being said, I believe we’re so divided as humans, my main focus as an artist is to try to bring as much unity as I can to this world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OK if you come in the Dallas Fort Worth area I would say you have to go to Village burger bar, or NorthPark mall. You have to pull up Cedar Ridge national preserve. You must go to the Trinity River and walk around. The Dallas JFK memorial; The Perrot museum, the Dallas museum of art, it’s so vegan is dope. It’s a lot of great places. I’m an active guy, it’s spring now, so I’m rooting for all outdoor activities.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I have to give glory and honor to God. These is no success or career without his grace covering my life. I also want to Shout out my Pastor for pouring so much into me as a man, and as an artist. I could never do the things I’m attempting to do now without his teachings. I also want to thank my beautiful woman for standing by my side, supporting the dream, and helping every step of the way.
