We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Yeager and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, how do you think about risk?
I suppose deciding to return to UT to pursue a second undergrad degree, and and MFA in Art was inherently risky. It required sacrifice on the part of myself, my partner and our two children, all of whom have been behind the irrational decision from the beginning.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I paint large abstract work on linen. The best description I can think of is “lyrical abstraction”. My brush marks are large and spontaneous, which sets my work apart. I have been fortunate to have been represented by several wonderful galleries over the years. If I’ve learned anything, it is that I must respect my own process, push forward and try to be comfortable with who I am as an artist.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, my family first of all have been my best support. I should also thank the late Clint Willour, who championed me and many other Texas artists. Thanks also to the galleries who currently represent me, Laura Rathe Fine Art and Ivester Contemporary.
