Meet Sudha Srinivasamoorthy | Cake Artist & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sudha Srinivasamoorthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sudha, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Stay true to yourself and your goals, trusting your gut and ignoring the noise around you are the major things my business has taught me over the years.
When I first decided to take this as a full-time career, too many questions were raised whether I am making the right decision. But eventually I learnt to believe in myself and my work is much more important. Passion, Practice and Perseverance – 3 Ps I learnt and follow.
Growth is always not linear, there are ups and downs in any journey. Passion we have for our craft, practicing our Art to be better every time and Perseverance is what helps us to keep moving forward.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a Cake Designer, Artist and founder of Sudha’s Cake Studio, a Cottage Bakery based in Mckinney, Suburbs of Dallas.
Prior to starting my Business I was in Software Industry with a completely different career profile. Cakes started as Hobby and turned into Passion and full time profession eventually changing my career from Software to Pastry.
I take pride in creating Cakes and Pastries which are not only a treat to your taste buds but a visual treat as well. My Cakes serve as my canvas that reflects my connection with Nature, Art and my own emotions. Combining love for Art and Pastry to create Edible Art is what I feel most proud about.
Changing careers to a completely different Industry is not an easy feat and comes with its own challenges. The biggest I faced initially was lack of guidance in taking a Hobby to a Profession but eventually met the right people at the right time, learnt new things, made tons of mistakes and learnt again. I would say having a career as a Chef or any creative industry requires constant learning of new skills and mastering them. I still have miles to go before I sleep.
My Brand – Sudha’s Cake Studio is a labor of pure love and Passion. We Strive to give the best Desserts and create one of a kind cakes for your Weddings and any special days. There are couple of flavors in our Menu where we combine the rich flavors from India with the Western flavors.
If you are looking for something creative, Artistic and center of attention at your parties, hit us up with your requirements and let us design your Edible Art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Finding great restaurants is the one thing I love and do it well as well.
Let’s start with a Traditional South Indian Breakfast at Saravanaa Bhavan, Plano followed by a quick coffee stop at Downtown Mckinney and check out the Mckinney Farmers market as well.
Lunch at Mango Thai in Plano followed by Dallas Aquarium and Museum visit. For Dinner I would recommend going to Uchi in Dallas, an Upscale Japanese restaurant with a plenty of options of Vegetarians as well. If they Prefer Italian food, definitely will be going to Lylas in Dallas or 400 Gradi in Mckinney for Dinner.
Drinks at Sidecar social, Snowbird, hangout in Legacy West, finish with a Gelato from Amorino.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge shout out to all my Mentors who are all top-class Cake Artists and Chefs in the Industry – Jasmine Rae, Marina Machado and my Instructor Chef Matthew from Le Cordon Bleu, London. They have all truly helped, guided and inspired me to do what I do every single day.
At the beginning of my career, I was all over the place struggling to find my style. All I knew is I just don’t want to be known as just another Home baker, I wanted to have my own style and I wanted People to recognize my work immediately and choose me for the style of cakes I do.
Right before Covid hit, I attended Jasmine Rae’s workshop in San Francisco which changed my perspective of Cake Art in a huge way. Her Workshop was not just about learning the craft, it was about deep diving into ourselves to find what we love to do as well as the business side of it.
Forever Grateful for the opportunities I have got to learn from the Masters in the Industry.
