Meet Stephonia Roberts | Herbalist & Gardener

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephonia Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephonia, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
There is a line from one of my favorite American poets, Robert Frost’s poems. The Road Not Taken .
Two roads diverged in a wood , and I – I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.
These beautiful words sum up my entire life of knowing I am different and it is okay . You don’t have to be like by every one or do as every one else .
And that has made all the difference!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the founder and President of The Garden of Eve Project, a 501c3 nonprofit in Fort Worth, TX. I’m very proud of sharing my knowledge of gardening , herbalism and foraging to those who are interested. Little did I know from the teachings of my grandmother there would be a following or a space for someone like me who collects caterpillars, hug trees and talk baby talk to plants . It hasn’t been easy because gardening takes passion, dedication and money . One of the most valuable assets is having volunteers who understand and sees your dedication. I think everyone should know that gardening for me is not a hobby but it’s who I am and the reason for being . I believe this is my assignment and ministry because we were born into the garden of Mother Earth . If we don’t understand that we are lost .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
How funny, I have a lot of spokenword friends who fly into DFW. Before they leave they make plans to visit the garden . They can hang out , relax , and get a good culinary herbal experience. We offer outdoor massages, bath and grounding . So, I’m definitely shouting out my garden! . Before or after that I would suggest Ella B’s in Arlington which has excellent food, music and the ambiance is very nice .
.I also would take them to the Botanical Gardens , try to catch a concert or a game at AT&T Stadium . In Fort Worth definitely back to the Water Gardens . My favorite place to have lunch is outside at Central Market on the patio. Everyone comes to Texas wants BBQ so Jambo’s right off W
Division would be the spot .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
That’s easy the 3 women of my nonprofit The Garden of Eve Project. These ladies have pushed, prodded, pulled, plotted and planned when I was just about to give up.
Diana Scott, Wendy Jones and Nicole Harvey. They keep me and the nonprofit afloat!
