Meet Stephen DetVo | Calvin + Klein | Subtek Music Dallas Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen DetVo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well, when it came to starting the Dallas branch of Subtek Music, We felt like it was something that we had to do. As a DJ duo who travels a lot we’ve seen a side of music culture that Dallas is missing out on. And although we do have a few big clubs that bring a variety of the bigger names, Dallas does not get a lot of the up and comers and underground artists. It also allows for us showcase a different side of Calvin + Klein not only on the stage but as the guys who run the shows as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to DJing, there are a dime a dozen. That’s why we’ve finally stepped into music production and brought a label to Dallas! It was not easy to do either. Learning Ableton is a huge undertaking. We’ve been using the software for over two years and still find new tricks for creating music all the time. And to throw shows, it took a lot of convincing to the label heads but they finally have agreed to let us throw events under the conglomerate. We’re still in a learning process but we’ve had our successes on several of the shows including, Juliet Fox and Oscar L. Saying this we’d love for you to check out our music and to come to our shows at Subtek Dallas! We’ve hosted amazing parties and showcases in places like Miami, New York and Detroit so Dallas is our newest destination and hopefully a huge player on the map!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our local itinerary would include a lot of places! We reside here because Dallas has a special place in our hearts. For food we HIGHLY recommend Manpuku, if you’re looking for our favorite dining experience. Other than that we’re huge fans of Mike’s Chicken, Loro Asian Smokehouse, Town Hearth, Old Monk and Sushi Axiom. For drinks we frequent Dots, Harlowe and HG Supply Co.! And finally for entertainment the places to hit are It’ll Do, Stereo Live, and Subtek Music’s monthly afterhours of course!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to give our shoutout to label itself! Subtek Music was one of the first big record labels that signed, Calvin + Klein. Upon finding us they’ve support us by getting us bookings all over the country which finally lead to us realizing how much our city was missing out on. They were the first to believe in us and now we would like to do the same for more up and coming artists.
