We had the good fortune of connecting with Stefany Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stefany, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance has always been a challenge for me, and continues to do so. I have a full-time day job, but I’m also a wife and mother, and so, I have to find time in the evenings or weekends for me to be able to work on my small business. It’s rough at times because I can be up all hours of the night and then struggle to settle down to sleep, just to get back up and begin my day. I am having to constantly remind myself that I need to take care of myself in the midst of all the things going on in my life, or everything will suffer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart is that I refuse to stay in my one lane – I make fan art, I make art is for Pokemon lovers, I make spooky things, pretty much anything that I like. I am not necessarily looking for a “target” audience – just everyone. I also do so without gatekeeping – I have become pretty popular on one of my social media accounts because of a very specific thing that I make, and I don’t hide how I make it. I answer questions, I’ve done tutorials. I wouldn’t be where I am today without asking for help and learning from others, and I would not ever want to stop someone from following their dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would do and visit a variety of things. I may begin with a trip to the Dallas Zoo, and then the Dallas World Aquarium. A visit to the State Fair would be a definite, the Arboretum weather-permitting. The Ross Perot museum is fun. Food-wise, I’d make any excuse to visit Twisted Root and then Texas de Brazil and CRU for special meals.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are obviously many, many people that come to mind for this, but if I have to pick a single person; my husband is always going to be my number one fan. He supports me, but he also grounds me. When I am stressed and freaking out, he calms me, he offers to help, or even just a simple, “What can I do for you?” He encourages me in all the right ways and is always there.
