We had the good fortune of connecting with Stefanie Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stefanie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I guess you can say it started back in 2000. I always wanted to be a web designer and in 2007, I received my Associates in Applied Science in Multimedia Web Design. The thought of creating my own web sites, graphics, videos, etc… was something I really wanted to do but was unable to utilize due to the job requirements for those roles. So, when the opportunity presented itself again in 2015, during the St, Patrick’s Day Parade (and after an allergic reaction to some costume jewelry), the thought of “Hey! I can make my own jewelry”, came to mind and voila! Steffy Jewels came to fruition.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
That’s very interested to know because my professional career is in accounting which is completely different from my creative side. Being able to have a left and a right side of the brain working for you is not always easy. I guess with the accounting side, I’m very attentive to the smallest details which then translates into some of my designs. You must make sure that you have the right materials as well as the perfect outcome when making products for your customers. It’s not always easy to juggle both sides as I work full time (40+ hours) in my day job and then having to work as much as I can once I clock out for the day. There will be days even months where I don’t even touch my small business as I’m only one person. I’m the owner of Steffy Jewels as well (but not limited to) the product designer, web designer, marketing director, and so forth. I wear all the hats in trying to get this business up and running and that alone is tough. One thing I live by, and I quote from Heather Torres, from Think Media, is “Your Race, Your Pace.” I have these words posted on my wall and when I ever feel stress or in doubt on where I should be at, I’ll just say these words and just breathe. I know that I will reach my goal to make Steffy Jewels my full-time job but in the meantime, I’m enjoying the journey of getting there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, my spots are all craft spots such as Hobby Lobby, Joanns, or Michaels lol. I haven’t been out like that since starting my business and with the pandemic going on, my entertainment lies on YouTube. There’s so much you can learn on YouTube and without this platform, I wouldn’t be where I am today with starting my business.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother deserves the credit. She, too, is very creative with her passion for sewing and now mix media art that I was bound to get hit with the creative bug at one point. She actually bought me my very first craft supplies to feed this need and from there I’ve only increase to other avenues in the craft world.
