Meet Sophia Sophire” Jiang | DJ”

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia “Sophire” Jiang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophia “Sophire”, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. – Wayne Gretzky” – Michael Scott.
I think this is pretty self-explanatory, it combines the best of both sports and TV (ice hockey and The Office).

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love djing house, techno, and high-energy dance music. I believe that what sets me apart from others is that I am a fifteen-year-old girl who can’t actually DJ at nightclubs or festivals. I have already learned so much about how to DJ and how to manage social media with the help of my family and mentor. Social media is actually much more difficult than it looks, and planning out content or how to engage with an audience is definitely a challenge I am enjoying. The path is not always easy because I have to balance high school, extracurriculars (for example ballet), my personal life (family/friends), and finding time to DJ to keep my skills as sharp as possible. For me personally, maintaining a strong work ethic always helps me overcome anything I am struggling with, and I also think that it is important to understand breaks are necessary to function at a high level. I also hold a belief that mastering the fundamentals of anything is the precursor to any future success. I am most proud of my mix “phire mix 001” that I released in April on Soundcloud with the help of my mentor “Dyluxe”. I am looking forward to creating and releasing my own music, playing sets at hockey games/other sporting events, festivals, clubs, other venues, and much more in the near future. I am always open to feedback from the community, and I will always appreciate any opportunity to expand my horizons. Please feel free to contact me with any inquiries at all, and I would love to help the DFW metroplex/other communities in any way I possibly can.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever someone is in the DFW metroplex, for sports I always recommend going to a Dallas Stars hockey game (because ice hockey is simply the best sport in the world). For the more studious or indoor person, I love heading to the Perot Museum or the Kimbell Museum to view some great historical art pieces. To people expecting cowboys and cattle in Texas, the Stockyards is a great spot if someone is visiting downtown Fort Worth. In the DFW area, there are many great places to shop including NorthPark, Highland Park, Legacy West, and Galleria (which includes an ice rink). I also think that the Fort Worth Zoo, the Dallas Zoo, and the Botanical Gardens are worth spending some time in for more nature-related activities. Some restaurants I love to frequent include Mr. Max in Irving, Tiger Sugar in Carrollton (boba drinks), Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle in Carrollton, Marugame Udon in Dallas, Malai’s Kitchen, and Akarii Revolving Sushi in downtown Fort Worth. The DFW area is worth exploring because there are so many hidden gems in the area, even us locals have not found them all! The growing DFW metroplex is always gaining more and more, and every day there is something new to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out to my mom especially, as well as the rest of my family for always supporting me in my endeavors, and pushing me to grow. I would also like to shout out to my mentor Dylan Talley “Dyluxe” for teaching me how to DJ, furthering my career, and advising me on my skills during our sessions on Zoom with him from California.
