We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonny Steinberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonny, why did you pursue a creative career?
For the longest time I was dead set on a traditional 9-5 job, ones in which my parents have. This didn’t excite me. I was willing to risk to do what I love even if it means the next project isn’t the last

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art of DJ’ing goes beyond turning tables and pressing buttons.. I’ve been DJ’ing myself for around 10 years and I’m still learning new things! It’s the journey, not the destination! Growing my business, I’ve learned many lessons, but the one that sticks the most, is be unique. The more basic, the more boring. My MC skills definitely add to it. For myself, you aren’t just hiring a guy to stay behind the booth, you’re hiring someone with a personality that elevates the party more than anyone else!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live at the village, so any events going on are so much fun! If there’s nothing, the bars & restaurants are incredible! Outside of the village, deep ellum and uptown are my second homes. Restaurants, bars, concerts, it has it all!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my parents, especially my mom for where I am today. As a single working mother, she has supported me from the beginning. No matter what I chose to pursue in life, she was there to cheer me on. Through battling breast cancer and running a magazine, she’s my hero.
