Meet Sofiat Adegbindin | Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofiat Adegbindin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sofiat, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I am a self-taught Makeup Artist based in Houston, Texas. My main goal and priority is to make my clients feel like their absolute best self by the time they leave my chair! Beauty comes from within, but can also be shown through my work on a client. I also do one-on-one classes to teach upcoming makeup artists skills to enhance their own techniques.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work in the Medical Center as a Clinical Research Specialist in the neurosurgery department. I work directly with stroke patients, specifically intracerebral hemorrhages. I got this job after I graduated college with the help of my cousin. I have learned a lot since college and working in the real world, and if there is something I would tell others, it would be to always have a back up plan because life is unpredictable! Do not ever settle for anything and always strive to upgrade your life. When it comes to my makeup business, Beautifulbeatsbysofi is my baby! I have worked hard for over 6 years to get as good as I am today. I appreciate every single person that supports me in any way, whether it is promoting my posts, referring people to me, or booking me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am originally Nigerian and I love a good afrobeats vibe! I also LOVE to eat! So we would go to many restaurants and then go to a nice lounge in the evening.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So I would like to shoutout all of my friends that believed in me over the past 6 years. They were the main ones that encouraged me to take makeup more seriously by doing what I love and making money from it. I started getting a lot more bookings through my friend, Hisana, when she hired me to do her model’s makeup for her plus-size fashion boutique. She trusted me with the faces of her models and not only helped me gain confidence in my work, but helped me gained more clients. I am forever grateful to her.
