Meet Skylene Herrera | Stay at home mom and small business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Skylene Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skylene, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first decided to start a business I dont think I really had much of a process. I knew I wanted to start something since I was a stay at home mom. I had started thinking about what I wanted to make and sell and did research for weeks on the products I wanted to make and perfecting everything. My main goal behind starting my business wasn’t to run a business, but to have something I can say I created.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So with the products I make I like to make sure I always make them exactly how the customer wants. I hate sending outs a product that was wrong or wasn’t designed to how they wanted it. I always get exited about custom orders because once I make them it makes me feel so happy that I’m able to making it how the customer envisioned. Getting to where I am now took a lot of work because I’m always improving and learning from my mistakes from previous orders such as if I messed up because I applied a decal wrong or changing timing on my freshies in the oven. I feel like the important lesson I’ve come to know is definitely quality over quantity. Making products great and correctly the first time rather than trying to rush and making a lot quickly. The thing is like people to know about me is that I always want to make myself and my products better. Yes I’m human and make mistakes but to me I always want to please a customer and enjoy those excited messages when they say how much they loved their product.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So as much as I’d love to be able to answer this question it’s kind of a hard one. I can’t say I have cool spots to go to because I really don’t go out much since I stay home with my son. Sometimes it’s a struggle going places with toddlers that I just stay home. Most of my friends are all moms as well and even then we hardly get to see each other or they are usually busy so there isn’t really many places to go with friends. But soon I hope to be able to have a better answer for this type of question.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my fiancé, for being a major supporter of what I’m doing. He knows I enjoy making my products and likes to remind me that I shouldn’t over work my self as much as I love taking a bunch of orders at once and stay up all night working while my sons asleep. I’m very thank full for his support and with my friends and family that always come back to order my products.
