We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvia Rosales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Silvia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had a vision that I could help and support other business owners with my expertise as a specialized bookkeeper. Since I was a small child I was always mindful of spending and saving, and the patterns that can create success and increase wealth. Even as a little girl I was always thinking about saving money to go to college, buying my first home, and even thinking about having enough money when I retired.

Dreaming of my own business since the age of 15 always interested me, however I had no idea what to do. I worked in several accounting firms, and learned a lot, but I didn’t like how females were treated within the industry. After working in the audit department for a large firm I noticed that my friends, family, and co-workers were always asking for my advice around their money and tax issues. One day I realized that this could be a business, and then asked myself what I wanted to do with my life. I realized that working for myself and creating a supportive team would be a really amazing way to do what I love and serve clients who can’t afford to have a full-time bookkeeper.

It’s an honor to work with clients in varying industries and know that I’m the person they trust with their day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting operations. Everything starts with your books. If you’re unaware of your business finances you can get into real trouble and lose everything!

It was also important for me to start a business because I’ve realized that many people haven’t learned financial literacy. Through my business I’m able to be an advocate for greater financial literacy and it’s a passion of mine to make sure that young girls and women learn to think in this way.

My main goal is to show everyone in business that you can achieve your financial goals and dreams. The definition of success varies, whatever that is, there is a roadmap written and we can achieve it together. From the small restaurant acquiring all their licenses to a successful trucking company.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rosales Financial is an accounting and bookkeeping firm located in Northern New Jersey. We opened our doors in April of 2014 and we’re still going strong.

We’ve been part of our clients growing their businesses and we’re always proud of their success. One client, in the construction industry, started with us when they were earning $75k a year and now they’ve exceeded the million dollar mark, all within 3 years of business. Another client was a 250k a year “mom and pop” shop and is now a successful $10 million dollar business with over 40 employees. These statistics drive us to keep improving our skills to push more businesses to have the same success. One of our main objectives has been to assist others to build and grow successful businesses by paying attention to their finances.

Owning a business takes constant dedication, flexibility, and the desire to be better. Another reason I rely on my coach. At first it was just me, and I wore many hats as the manager, bookkeeper, accountant, and marketing team, all at the same time. What feels good is to expand my team and continue expanding my team each year as we continue to grow our client list.

There have definitely been bumps in the road and many challenges. For example, when I became a mom that changed everything and put different constraints on my time, however you figure it out. There will always be something to pull you away from working on the business, however my coach has given me a framework to stay focused, develop a plan, and work on the growth. We’re always challenged in one way or another to juggle all our responsibilities, however I think of everything as a growing experience and how to be the best role model for my daughters.

I’m human and get stressed like everybody else but I remember why I’m in business and that helps to change my perspective.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay you’re Hoboken, New Jersey for the day and you’re gonna love exploring this city! First start with a walk along the waterfront walkway as we view the skyline of Manhattan. Next we’re headed to the Cuban restaurant which makes the best Spanish skirt steak in town.

Next head over to my favorite sports bar “The Shepherd & the Knucklehead” which has my favorite Vodka cocktails
and beer selection.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My business coach, Holland Haiis! She has been with me through some of my most difficult challenges and growth in my company. The first year I worked with her my business increased by 63%. If you’ve never had a coach think seriously about getting one because you will learn things you never imagined.

Working with a business coach takes you and your business to the next level. Thank you Holland for your support, keeping me on accountable, and showing me a better version of myself.
