We had the good fortune of connecting with Shunita Salone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shunita, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Integrity is at the top of my list of values. I strive to do right by my customers even during unprecedented times like now. I believe that doing what’s right is necessary and will go a long way in building rapport and repeat customers. When this pandemic first hit my first thought was, How am I going to make things easier on my customer versus making an already terrible situation harder on them. I choose to be flexible and understand that this was unpredictable and allowed my customers who canceled their event to be refunded deposits or receive house credit.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Scratch and Freshness are the two things that sets me apart from others. I have worked tirelessly to perfect every one of my cake recipes. This was definitely not an easy task to write thirty cake recipes. Anyone familiar with baking knows it’s a science, for example, too much flour will create a dry cake. Everything about baking is precise. Through the many hours of test baking I learned a lot of what not to do. My goal is to always give you the freshest product ever. I do not agree with freezing whole cakes for weeks a time. I know this makes me work a tad bit harder on each order, but I’m okay with that. My customer is worth it and deserves the freshest product I have to offer. Not a cake baked a week before, then frozen, then decorated and given to them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, stop would be the Bishop Arts District there are so many great shops and restaurants there. Next, stop would be a visit to the most divine soap and spa ever Lavishing Retreat and Salon. I couldn’t let them come all this way without visiting one of the best popcorn shops around so we would definitely make a stop at Mama Moore’s. I would be open to visiting some new spots and us experiencing them together depending on their taste buds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you, to all my CUSTOMERS!!!! I appreciate the continued support of my small business, referrals and social media shares. I am looking forward to serving each of you in the future!
