We had the good fortune of connecting with Shona Luper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shona, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance has changed tremendously. A long time ago, I used to wake up, go to work, and come home to relax. Now that option is no longer available most days. There are certain days that I work an eight-hour shift and have to come home to get ready for a photo shoot or take care of business. Some days I feel like I have to slow down and not put so much on my plate, so I always make sure to put time for myself, such as improving my physical health and emotional state. Overall, everything has been spread out with the correct time management.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a model and influencer. I will collaborate with photographers to bring creative ideas to life. I also work with small businesses to provide content for their business I am very creative when it comes to my shoots, I like to standout when planning projects. It can be time consuming, but definitely worth it. I am proud that I was published in four magazines and was able to work with a couple small businesses. Being a model and influencer is not easy. it takes consistency, money, and networking to get to the next level. I am still growing and finding more businesses to work with. I cannot be shy, because I have to speak up and step out my comfort zone to conduct business. Getting comfortable with talking to people takes practice. Once I figured out that all I needed to do was talk and carry on a conversation, everything flowed. Never be scared of no or failure. I can honestly say my lessons while being on this journey is that sometimes you will make bad business deals. Always research and ask questions to people that you can trust. I want the world to know that I am a consistent, hard worker and will do anything to make my dreams come true.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On Monday I would like to take my friend to Louie’s to get a burger and catch up. Later on that day, I would take her to go to Top Golf and get some drinks. On Taco Tuesday, I would take her to a delicious spot called Torchy’s, then later on that day, go to the Science Museum. On Wednesday, we would go get some wings from Chicken N Pickle then to Brickopolis to play mini putt putt. On Thursday, we would go to my favorite breakfast spot called The Hatch and at nighttime we would go bar hopping downtown at Sunset, Pink Parrot, Kongs, and Fasslers. Friday afternoon, we would go to the Warren Theater to watch a movie. Later on, we would go to a popular spot called The Collective to get some drinks and food. Saturday morning, we would start our day by going to Riversport to go kayaking, tubing, rafting and zip lining. After that, we would go home and dress up to go to a fancy restaurant called Mickey Mantels. Then on Sunday, to end off our festivities, we would go relax and go to Swan Spa & Nails to get a Manicure and Pedicure.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would personally like to give a shoutout to God, my family, and friends for all of their support. I am thankful for God, because without Him, I would not be where I am today. I am thankful for all of the prayers and directions that has been given to me. My family and friends kept me motivated so that I can become successful. I would also like to give a shoutout to Susan Curry for mentoring me to become a great influencer and model. She has given me great advice and guidance. Lastly, I would like to thank Trip G, because he helped me find myself. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without him. I am truly blessed to have everyone in my life..
