We had the good fortune of connecting with Shemieka Pitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shemieka, do you have a budget?
I most definitely have a budget. When I had my first place on my own money cane and went with no thought. Through experience I’ve learned that budgeting allows me to do the things I want to WHEN I want to. Preparing for the future has become something that I take seriously and my financial planning has shifted. My financial planner is awesome and we discuss future financial goals a few times a year and allocate accordingly. I have clear goals for what I want in life so when I’m going to buy something I ask myself does the purchase take away from or add to my goals. My only no -negotiable is a vacation every year.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a hairstylist with over 18 years of experience in the beauty industry. It’s allowed me to live a really good life and I’m so thankful for that. My business has expanded to have a haircare/cosmetics line: 1 Sweet Honeybee and also my Beauty Business Coaching. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am but it wasn’t impossible- it took hard work and dedication to my craft. I’ve always had a heart for people and love the connections I make while I’m behind the chair. With my Beauty Business Coaching my goal is to inspire other young women starting out in the beauty industry to set themselves and there business up for success in a way that allows for growth.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Most definitely Shops at Legacy, Trinity Groves, and Sweet Georgia Brown. I’m not a drinker but I will travel for some food. Most of my friends are shoppers so we would do that too! I’m loving how the DFW metroplex has grown and I love to spend time when families gets to town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son, Wesley, has been my biggest inspiration. I had him so young that we practically grew up together. I made decisions based on how it would affect both of our lives and moved in life accordingly. I wanted to show him an example of a loving, hardworking, caring woman so that he would have those same qualities.
