We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelley Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Funny enough, I’m quite risk averse, but if you’d look at my adult life/career, you’d say otherwise. I am a strong follower of Jesus, and the older I get, the more open I am to following the path He puts before me versus trying to make what I WANT happen. I have had a passion for baking and cooking for almost 30 years now, and looking back, I wish I would have attended culinary school, but instead I received an excellent education from UT Austin, providing me the tools to properly market myself. In July of this year, I decided to finally follow my passion after my younger daughter requested to bake cookies over the summer. Because of her persistence and passion, I now get to spend my days in a commercial kitchen baking decadent cookies! I put love and joy into each and every cookie, and my friends say you can taste it. My journey to get here has taken a long time, but the Lord knows my path, and I’m dedicated to following His direction!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My friends have always told me my personality sparkles, and that I’m a bright light in this world. I’m very comfortable in routines and I think consistency is important, so I get up every morning at 5:45, shower and get ready. I never leave the house without makeup on. I believe that you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and first impressions matter. If you’re always presenting your best self, then you’ll never be embarrassed to run into anyone! I’m an incredibly hard, dedicated worker who puts 100% of myself into everything I do, and I try very hard to do it joyfully with a smile on my face and gratitude in my heart. My professional career has not been easy, and I’ve stumbled a lot along the way, but I’ve learned many lessons leading me to where I am now. I am far from perfect and I’ve let life get to me, especially this year, but I believe I am stronger in faith and in spirit now than ever before. Sparkle All Over is a brand that I have loved for many years, and I am finally getting to see it come to fruition. That is due to the incredible support I receive from my family and friends. I am blessed beyond measure.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, I could go on for a long time about my love for this city! I’ve been in the Dallas area off and on for the past 23 years, and I can’t imagine another city in which I’d rather live. My favorite tourist attractions that truly stand out to me are the Dallas World Aquarium, the Dallas Zoo and the Dallas Arboretum. I’m a Plano girl, and am very proud of our city and the amazing restaurants to choose from – I feel no need to go downtown anymore because Plano has it all! We’d visit Legacy West (the Food Hall is very cool for drinks/people watching and Haywire has amazing food), The Boardwalk at Granite Park (gotta go to The Biscuit Bar), and then off to Downtown Plano for a cup of coffee at XO Coffee Company and dinner and drinks at Urban Crust. I’m also a huge fan of Watters Creek in Allen right off of 75 and Bethany. Great restaurants and big green area for lounging and people watching. Our favorites are Blue Fish for sushi, Cru Wine Bar for charcuterie boards and wine flights, and Paciugo for dessert! I’m a foodie, so vacations always center around restaurants!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The list of people that have supported and encouraged me in my life are LONG! I am truly blessed to have the most amazing people around me starting with my family (husband, children, parents, and brother)! I believe that I have the BEST girlfriends a girl could possibly ask for – they love me, support me, and encourage me to be happy and live my best life. I also have had not only the best, but the worst bosses, and honestly I believe that you learn from both! There are no mistakes in life, and I have grown a great deal because of it.
