We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby and Betty | Buy the House, Build the Home and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby and Betty | Buy the House, Build the Home, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
We believe that one must risk to live the life they desire. When we choose to stay in comfort, we will really never know what we are capable of or where we might have gone. Being an entrepreneur of any kind takes risk. Being in Real Estate can feel like you are on a rollercoaster ride, but ultimately the reward of shaping your own life and helping others with such a significant decision is worth it. We will both jump at risk and seek to conquer it, if we know that is how we get to the end result we desire. Blind risk may not be smart, but we believe in the power of calculated risks and believing in yourself!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BETTY: I have a very relational approach to my business and have a unique set of skills. I am energetic, friendly, and strive to lead every transaction with integrity, empathy and authenticity. I have strong negotiation and communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a keen ability to understand people and what drives them. I serve my clients with confidence and compassion. Real estate is a very emotional process and I love being with people every step of the way.
It has definitely come with a set of challenges and has not been easy. No real estate transaction is the same and there are tons of moving parts. I have had to work hard to maintain boundaries – real estate never sleeps. I have also navigated very difficult personal life circumstances while building my business at the same time. I have overcome many hurdles and have learned countless life lessons along the way. Here are a few things I’ve learned – prioritize gratitude and deep connection, take ownership over your mistakes, keep your heart soft, and never stop growing.
SHELBY: I am NOT a newbie to business, but I am just stepping into the field of Real Estate as an agent. I feel my niche in the real estate world is helping buyers truly make a good investment decision and not just find a house. And serve sellers in such a way that we can pull top dollar for their house. I want their housing choice to serve them today and in the future. So I will dive deep into numbers and put together game plans to make sure you get the most out of your sale or buy. I love to be a bridge of connection for people, creating a team of lenders, contractors, and whoever else they might need in their real estate journey.
I would say finding my way to real estate has not been easy! I have always longed for the stability that a 9-5 offers, but would often find myself bored. A LOT of exploration, to my dismay, before I found what suits me and where I can best serve others. I’m thankful for the journey as it has taught me so much. I have no doubt building this real estate business will have it’s ups and downs, but I am deeply passionate about housing and love seeing people reach their housing and investing dreams! These two things will get me through any trenches in building a business!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
From Shelby’s point of view: I am a coffee lover and I require it of all my friends. So if someone was coming in town to Dallas, I would start with some of my favorite coffee spots. One would be La La Land. Not sure how they make the coffee taste so great. Another spot would be George: Coffee and Provisions. This cute coffee shop in Coppell makes you feel like you are in a small town. I’m a big fan of farmers markets, so we would need to make our way to the Dallas Farmers market as well. I grew up in Grapevine, a suburb of Dallas, and to this day, I love hiking around Grapevine Lake and walking down Main Street in Grapevine. Lastly, I am going to drag you across town to Fort Worth for some fabulous margaritas at Joe T’s
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hi, it’s Shelby. I would love to dedicate this shoutout to a few people. My Husband first and foremost! He has seen my great desire to help people with real estate for years, and even when I had my doubts, he encouraged me to take the risk and go after what was within me to do. Also to Betty! She was a cheerleader along the way, speaking from her experience in Real Estate she convinced me I had what it takes to really make a difference in the field. I love partnering with her on this podcast and in our real estate endeavors. f
