Meet Shelbie Bowling | Realtor, Freelance Model, Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelbie Bowling and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelbie, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Most of my career life has been in sales. Interacting with all different walks of life has most definitely shaped and refined my people skills which I believe is crucial to being successful life. Currently I am a Realtor®, tattoo apprentice, and freelance model. Each one of these call for not only situational awareness, but to understand and genuinely care about others needs and goals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am very proudly the co-owner of the new shop Scarlet Tyde Tattoo along with being a realtor! Choosing a path in real estate was a bit of a wild card for me. I would say I’ve always been pretty charismatic, which helps a lot with managing or talking to strangers but I never showed much of an interest in real estate. Customer service and helping people has always been my strongest characteristic so real estate just made sense. It is a wonderful feeling when you see someone get their keys for the first time! Opening the tattoo shop is really began with me building my life with a tattoo artist. We’re both extremely ambitious and would spend hours just talking about different business ideas. Neither of us really came from much so we knew we wanted to leave our mark on the world in some way. We both tend to be perfectionist and have the goal of creating an amazing shop that is not only a well-oiled machine but one where all clients feel respected and leave stoked about their art. I also happen get to fulfill my childhood dream of being an artist, so it all worked out just pretty swell I would say! That’s not to say it hasn’t been challenging along the way. It has taken hours of construction, research, time, and energy. I have never been so exhausted yet excited in my life. This whole experience has made me really realize how important your inner circle can be. Having people who challenge, support and help us grow mean more to me now then ever. Every time I look back at where we came from I’m crazy proud of us and humbled by how it all came together!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Every good visit has to have balance. Some real fun stuff, and then some absolute chilling. If it’s a weekend then obviously we have to go out! Not too crazy though. Just the stockyards, a dive bar, or a festival if one is in town. I’m really a homebody, but I would make an exception for my bestfriend. Although knowing her, she would probably just want to chill at home too! My real treat would be showing her all the wonderful food places I’ve discovered. Because food is the best part of any vacation! Breakfast of course would be Waffle House due to their incredibly consistent delicious eggs and hashbrowns. Then we would take a little drive to Carrolton for some amazing Korean BBQ at Gen. The overall vibe of Gen is amazing and the Hawaiian steak is so so good, I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t appreciate it. Aside from that most of the rest of the week would just be relaxing and spending time with each other. COVID has made going out and exploring pretty risky and I think we both prefer staying home with our fur babies and some hot tea over potentially getting sick.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It may sound cheesy but I would honestly credit my boyfriend James Hix and his family to a lot of my success and ambition. I unfortunately was not graced with the kindest background and him and his family were big contributors in helping me build a solid foundation in life along showing me how to achieve my dreams. They have consistently cheered me on throughout my ventures and showered me in nothing but unconditional love which has given me to drive to ALWAYS continue to grow.
