We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheilla Tutson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheilla, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my brand is focusing on the quality of the product I present to my customers. I take pride in making everything from scratch. Growing up my mom always baked from scratch and that stuck with me. If something is not up to standard, I always try to make it right because I know that when people support my business they made the choice to when they didn’t have to. It has been a very humbling experience to be at a community event or market and have people approach me because of a recommendation. My goal is to “Make life sweet.” and I love it when people tell me how much they enjoy my treats.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been passionate about cooking and baking. Growing up my mom always had some fresh baked treat for us after school. I spent part of my childhood in Puerto Rico and my grandmother there would teach me how to cook. It was scary to give up a traditional 9-5. I spent years in the medical field and before I started my business I was a school bus driver, which I loved. I had talked about starting a food truck for years and once COVID hit and I found myself out of work, my husband said “This is it.” It hasn’t been easy, I think everyone who has started their own business can attest to that. But, the biggest thing that I’ve learned is to be myself. It’s easy to get sucked into what others may be doing, but Ive learned that people really enjoy what I do and I want to keep putting smiles on their face. I just want to spread the joy of food through my treats.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Omg, first I would take them to Denton and get some Mission Pizza. The owners live in my neighborhood and I’ve been able to get their delicious pizza from the start. They’re amazing people and the pizza is awesome. To be honest, I’m such a home body that I don’t do much. I do love going to the movies and to Rangers games though. 😁

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shout out my family. My husband was they key factor in motivating me to start my business. He has supported me from day one and continues to do so. Starting a business isn’t easy and he has been by my side every step of the way. I also have to shout-out my son Isaiah and his friends Sydni and Jaden, who bake with me and help at markets when I need extra hands.
