We had the good fortune of connecting with Shayla Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shayla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
A good amount of people will tell you the pandemic wasn’t a great time for them. I didn’t have the same experience. I’e always enjoyed helping people and getting excited when they’ve succeeded in something I helped push them towards. I decided to try a new career path but quickly realized I was not helping people as much. I decided to figure out a way I could do that while still working my 9-5. I would walk for miles daily listening to different podcast which helped me decide how that would look for me. What better way to help others than by being their assistant. I’m the person my family go to for tech assistance, planning trips, and creating things. I just get paid for it now.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MadKae Virtual Assistants is for business owners who are getting started or already established but need assistance with getting their systems going. We don’t just help you with your to-do list. We also help you create a strategy that helps you to work without working. I’m most proud of being able to be a stress reliever for my clients. After many test and trials, I found a system that works for me. I was able to connect with the right people to help me on the journey. I had to let go of the thought of doing things on my own. That’s something that will definitely limit you. One other thing I had to do is remove my limiting beliefs. Business owners talk about that a lot and it’s very true. Your mind is really your biggest block or help. This was probably my most difficult challenge. I learned how to remove the negative thoughts and put that energy into my business.

Your help is here. Entrepreneurs aren’t required to wear all the hats to get the business started. There are tasks for you to keep and others to delegate. That’s where we come in. I know what it feels like to be “strong” and do things on your own. Let us help you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love a good walk through nature. I would start with a trip to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden followed by a good meal at Sweet Georgia Brown. An interesting thing to do is a pedal pub crawl, riding the buzz bike to Deep Ellum and meeting random people on the way. A must try is Terry’s Barbecue. The ribs fall off the bone and that Mac & Cheese. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I’m not a big party person but if I go out Dibs is definitely the place to be. You can’t leave Dallas without checking out the Dallas museum. If you enjoy amusement parks then 6-Flags is a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has always been my biggest support system. I am blessed to be able to have such an amazing support system. This shoutout is probably a little different. The podcast Black Wealth Renaissance actually pushed me into starting my business. The amount of information given on that show is extraordinary . I can say listening to certain guest lead me to connect with some awesome business owners and experience a world I might have been too shy to approach.
