We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Ceeko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor to succes for us at Picosa Creek Outfitters, is honesty with the customer, provide the best product we can offer them at a fair price, do what you say, and provide the best customer service available.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Picosa Creek Outfitters (Picosa loosely means spicy) was started by my wife and I as a means to sell really good, well made, cowboy boots, cowboy hats, handmade leather goods (leather goods are made by our daughter) at affordable prices.

It really began with an idea in 2016 as a way to eventually retire from one career and transition into this one full time. The idea came from a boot shop I would purchase boots from and the owner was talking about retirement. I was worried about where I would be able to get the boots I liked if he shutdown the shop, since I wasn’t pleased with the selection and limited styles of big chain boot stores.

So we began to look into various avenues of starting our business and finally after feeling overwhelmed with the difficulties of getting financed, we just self funded our business in 2019, not knowing as much as you’d like but swung for the fences and never looked back. Each year has been better than the previous, and we have learned what works best for our business model and customers.

The thing I’d like people to know about our business is that we are more interested in a happy customer regardless of a purchase than a sale. Our boots are for sale, but not our integrity as I often say.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I’m not really one for cities, and most of my really close friends are pretty much the same. However, depending on the season and in Texas it’s usually hot, then hotter, a trip to the Guadalupe river is always a great time. Toobin the Guadalupe, enjoy some cold beer, then get some barbecue or Mexican food as both are great parts of living in a diverse place like Texas!

A trip to Gruene, Texas which a historical area of New Braunfels to enjoy some music or any other dance halls which again are pretty plentiful in Texas and enjoy the music, cold beer, and sometimes a little cold air conditioning would be a great time. More than likely though, we probably just ride our horses and enjoy the peace and quiet.

But, if they really wanted to see more, there are lots of great things to see and in in and around San Antonio!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I’d like to say none of Picosa Creek Outfitters would be possible without the support, and encouragement of my wife Toni.

The cowboy is probably the person (this is very broad and can truly be any person) is who I dedicate and give credit to for the inspiration of Picosa Creek Outfitters. While the origins of exactly where the cowboy descended from, Spain, Mexico, early North America, it is the spirit of the cowboy that is more what I’m referring to. Nowadays, this independent spirit can be found in the dust of West Texas, or the streets of a major city.
