We had the good fortune of connecting with Shapier Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shapier, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe risks are quintessential to growth in life! A lot of things are what they are in life because of people taking risks at some point. One of the most influential messages about Risks that I’ve heard is Steve Harvey’s message called “Jump” If you haven’t heard it… please take a moment and just pull it up on Youtube, it’s 6:35secs long. It has honestly been one of my favorite inspirational teachings to this day! Please take 6 1/2 mins to watch that video, it will definitely challenge you in a way that is very rewarding if you take the leap to Jump! I even went to purchase his book “Jump” after that. That’s literally what propelled me into the path of self growth and becoming a business owner/CEO of my Organic/ Vegan based Skincare line Mahogany Noire.

So 2yrs ago I intentionally set out to dedicate time towards focusing on self growth and really taking steps to JUMP! I’m one who journals, so I would journal a lot on my plans and thoughts, I would read on building my business. Things really shifted when I joined this “MKE Girl Bosses” group in Milwaukee, WI where I’m from. It’s a group of women that come together weekly lead by Kimistry by Kimberly who puts different exercises together to push us and challenge our comfort zone with growing our business. She also provided us with resources to help us and our business. That really set the tone to propel me into a headspace of an entrepreneur mindset. It helped me align my plans of starting my own skincare line into a tangible reality. However Covid19 hit ending all social contact, and also laying me off my job of 5yrs. So then I knew it… it was time for me to actually JUMP! And I did! I took that risk, started selling my products at Pop Up Shops and local hair salons. Then after solely doing that for a while without working a corporate 9-5 job, I had enough confidence to pack up and move to Dallas, TX with my blossoming new business. And although it was Scary & Challenging… taking that risk has been one of the best decision for myself and my business thus far.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My company Body by Mahogany Noire is a wholistic company, utilizing Organic and Natural ingredients with hand-blended products (Salt Scrubs, Sugar Scrubs, Body Butter, Face Oils, Face Toners, Face Elixers, Soaps, etc.) to aid in cultivating healthy glowing skin.

These properties used helps to detoxify, restore and revitalize the skin. Allowing it to maintain a supple and fresh appearance for an overall healthy look when used regularly.

My products are created with rich life enhancing nutrients that help with dry skin, psoriasis, eczema and an overall even balanced skin tone.

So let me tell you why I started to make organic skincare products and tell ya’ll all about my acne journey…

All through middle and high school I had such nice skin, (not to brag) but even up and throughout college. Then all of a sudden BAM… Acne started to make it’s debut. I was around 23yrs old, went all these years without breakouts… and boyyy did it take me through some changes. It’s like it wanted payback for all those years I went without breakouts. It’s crazy… I had ADULT ACNE! I remember being in college and picking at every pimple that showed up on my face, which in turn left me with acne scars. I had no clue how much worse I was making it. It was soo bad I couldn’t even find pics when it was at its worse. And it’s probably because I was too self conscious to even take pictures back then.

I was never one to wear makeup so as they came I would just pop them and put alcohol on it! That really just aided in making things worse. So back in the day my mom use to use Noxzema, so I turned to that… WRONG. That just made my face ghostly white and ultimately broke me out further.

Me stressing out about it just intensified my breakouts. And trying to cover it up with makeup just clogged my pores, ultimately making it worse! I didn’t know what to do! I tried Proactive, that only worked for a little bit. I started to go down the rabbit hole of buying any and everything that popped up pertaining to skincare, to try and fix this problem. I spent so much money. I then tried out these natural remedies I would see on YouTube… like cut banana peels and rub it on your blemishes, do an egg mask peel, honey and cinnamon masks… and the list goes on. It wasn’t until I tried the Aloe Vera Plant and Activated Charcoal masks that I saw a difference in my skin brightness and faded discoloration with my acne scars.

So I decided to come up with my own formulas that really worked for me, incorporating the ingredients that I used when I started to see a different in my skin. Once I saw that this WORKED and saw a change in my skin, I decided to make a Business out of it to help other people that was just like me, that have no idea what to do to turn their skin around. And I did it with using All Natural Products!!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’ve only been living here for less than 6months so I’m still learning and exploring… but for now I would take my friends visiting me to Brunch at Common Table, step out to Ten01 for food, good R&B music and hookah, look up an outing/ event that gets sent to me weekly on this app I downloaded called Nudge that suggest fun outings to do for people new to Dallas and plan a girls night to introduce them to all the dope friends I’ve met out here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Now us entrepreneurs put in a lot of work building up our businesses, but my business would not flourish the way that it has without the help of this man Kevin Harper! My ROCK through it all… he’s been my mentor, my investor, my counselor/ coach and even my headache at times lol but I truly love and appreciate him for helping me as much as he does. I would also like to acknowledge and thank MKE Girl Bosses and Kimistry by Kimberly… I don’t think she knows how much her group and the women in it helped me and the 21DayChallenge!!! And of course a huuuge thank you to allllllllll of my supporters, customers and people that believe in my products!!! You guys are what drive my business! So thank you!!!
