We had the good fortune of connecting with Selena Weber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selena, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Every decision in life comes with some degree of a risk. I really just try to tune into my intuition and go with what I know in my heart is the right choice. My intuition has never lead me astray! The more you practice quieting all of the worry and doubt the louder your answer To making a risky decision will be.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Becoming a professional model for me did not just fall into my lap. It is some thing that I had to set my mind to, work towards, and go get it. One day I just had The passion and drive ignited inside me to go out and pursue my dream. I Started working out daily, getting my mind and body right, and I put together a makeshift portfolio of the photos that my dad took for me. Once I felt like I was ready, I submitted those photos online to a couple of the top agencies. My agency NEXT models miami responded and they wanted to have a meeting in person. I had never been to Miami before but I was ecstatic that I was going to be given a shot. I went down to Miami and took my first steps into a modeling agency. The stars were aligned that day because they offered me a contract on the spot and sent me on my first casting. Everything was so new and so exhilarating to me. A week later I made the decision to up and move to Miami because I was determined this is what I was supposed to be doing full-time not just a hobby. I packed my suitcase and I moved to Miami with $200 of my parents money in my pocket. I rented an apartment sharing a room with another model with advanced money from my agency. I knew I had to make this work I had no choice it had to work. The modeling industry is very competitive and there are a lot of girls who don’t work and they struggle to pay rent or even buy food. That couple months that I was working to make away for myself taught me how important it is to have drive, passion, and ambition to make something happen For yourself. When you want something bad enough there is nothing that will stop you. After a couple months of getting in the groove of things and building a portfolio I started getting booked regularly. Ever since then I was officially a full-time model traveling the world for jobs every week. I really want the world to know that my industry is not all glamorous and just hand it to you. Most models have to work really hard and go through really low lows that no one knows about to get to the high highs that people see

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout-out to my parents. It seems cliché but in my case they truly are the reason I have had any success in my life. For starters my dad has been doing photography for 40+ years, so he is the reason Modeling comes so natural to me. Secondly, when I had no money and just a wild dream my parents believed in me just as much as I believed in myself. I told them I wanted to up and move to miami to pursue professional modeling a week from that date… so a week from that date I moved to miami with $200 of my parents money in my pocket and a dream as big as the risk I was taking. Despite not being told I wouldn’t make it because I’m not 5’11 I was determined to make it happen. They wanted me to figure it out and make a way for myself, which is exactly what I did.
My parents have always supported all of my seemingly impossible dreams and have taught me how to work for what I want. I’m forever grateful that they let me be the free soul that I am and never tried to extinguish the fire that burns inside me.
