We had the good fortune of connecting with Sebastian Palencia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sebastian, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
One piece of conventional advice I disagree with is doing what you love. I don’t mean that in the sense of don’t enjoy what you do for a living. I mean it in the context of being scared to branch out of what you know and are comfortable with. When running a business where you sell products your favorite items may not be the ones which sell the best or are the most popular. Not being afraid to try new things is something that I really feel everyone can benefit from.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One thing I feel that really sets us apart from others is our prices and quality. We have worked very hard for a few years to find the best possible prices and quality and be able to pass that savings onto our customers. We buy all of products from Mexico so sourcing all of our products has been very challenging. I go to school full time and my parents both work full time so finding time to make trips to Mexico has been a huge challenge for us. Luckily since I get the summers off and my mom does as well we have been able to overcome that obstacle and actually meet our suppliers in person and see how all these products get made from start to finish. Starting a business is never easy and there is always something to do. Having a good support system and always being willing to go the extra mile is a necessity. I always enjoy helping customers out and seeing them leave satisfied is something that always makes the day worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to eat so going to some good restaurants is a must during their trip. If they are visiting during the fall going to a baseball game and visiting down town Arlington would be at the top of my list. After the game I would want to go get some boba tea at my favorite place in Arlington Bethany’s Cafe. Another place I enjoy going to is downtown Fort Worth there is so much to do and it’s always a blast. Downtown of my favorite spots is Buffalo Bros. Going to the state fair during this time of the year is something I always enjoy doing trying all the different things my favorites definitely have to be: fried Oreo’s and funnel cake.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One group of people I feel need some recognition is my family. My parents have always been very supportive of anything I have done. This business has been no different and my parents have been been behind me every step of the way. There have been many good moments and times I have loved to share with them and there has also been times where I have been struggling and really had to lean on them for help and support. I am very thankful to have their support and help when I cannot do it alone.
