We had the good fortune of connecting with Sebastian Aguinaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sebastian, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Brick Labware was created with the sole focus on providing more affordable and customizable labware. We intend to help educational institutions and science startups have more purchase power on what can be a long and fruitful research endeavor.
We’re glad to see the happy expressions of a small business owner when we’re able to provide affordable services to facilitate their work. We take pride in the pleasantly surprised expressions of PHD students and professors when we tell them their custom labware will be ready for them in weeks rather than months.
At Brick it’s all about making labware universal using innovative 3D printing technology.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Like most small businesses we got where we are today by working hard and taking every opportunity that we can to spread our name and brand. Our biggest challenge was also the very thing that set us apart from other labware companies. Using 3D printing to reduce the cost of production was something that a lot of our clients felt was too good to be true. Because of our affordable prices and very fast lead times many people in the scientific community were skeptical about our products and services. It was only when we partnered as a supplier with Biolabs that we had our first chance to prove to a large startup company that what we offer was just as good as anything else on the market. Since then, we are also now official suppliers of the University of Boulder in Colorado and we hope in the future to be suppliers to even more educational institutions.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas is a big city but nothing beats the downtown area when it comes to multiple activities. The Perot Museum of nature and science is a great place to start, it’s fun for all ages and they host a good number of exhibits and displays that change year-round. When it comes to food nothing beats a good BBQ here in the south! Dallas offers many steakhouses with fresh cuts and quality meat but if you want to have the best BBQ in my opinion you should not miss out on Cattleback Barbeque. They are open limited times a week so that they have the time to smoke and cook the quality food they serve.
Finally nightlife in Dallas on top of having amazing clubs has its own street filled with the highest end bars in the city. The Deep Ellum district offers an amazing night life after a long day’s work.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to thank all the people who’ve helped us grow as a business. Thanks to all the people who have taken a chance on our business we’ve been able to continue spreading value and progress to a growing number of enthusiastic scientists and business owners.
The 3D printing community also deserves recognition for having inspired us to adopt this relatively niche technology with all its benefits. We’ve also been lucky enough to receive guidance from larger local 3D printing manufacturers which has been invaluable to our mission
