We had the good fortune of connecting with Sasha Ataga, Jon’Nique Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sasha and Jon’Nique, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.

We’re two best friends who met in college through a women’s organization on our campus. One thing that brought us close together as friends was our faith but also our passion for encouraging and helping women. The unveiling Her podcast was birthed after a conversation we had at brunch where we shared some raw and personal things we were both going through at the time. That moment made us realize that there are a lot of things we go through as women that we typically don’t get the opportunity to talk about in church. The Unveiling Her podcast is a safe space we’ve created with the intent of having honest and real conversations about our faith, culture, and daily struggles we face as women. What we believe really sets us apart from other podcasts is our willingness to go deeper and be vulnerable with our listeners.

What is the most important factor behind your success?

The most important factor behind our success is our faith and relationship with God. It was extremely important to us that our friendship and podcast remained centered around Christ in every way. With Christ being our foundation, one of the major goals of our podcast is to encourage other women to pursue a relationship with God, discover their true identity in Christ and unveil into all God has called them to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

The journey to creating a podcast has definitely come wIth its unique challenges being that this was something new we both had never done before. We also didn’t know a lot of people in our personal lives who had started a podcast and initially there were many mental obstacles we had to overcome including the feeling of not being good enough. The process of creating Unveiling Her really began with a change in our mindset and stepping out on faith to achieve what we believed the Lord was calling us to do together. Some of our biggest challenges stemmed from communication and learning how to compromise, since we are a duo. Also, juggling the podcast with our everyday lives and careers as a registered nurse and teacher was difficult in the beginning. One thing we have learned through this process is that things don’t always have to be perfect before you start. Just start! And keep improving as you go.

 The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

First and foremost we would love to thank God! This all would not be possible without Him and we truly don’t know where we would be without His love and faithfulness. We would also like to dedicate this shoutout to our family, friends, and listeners for all their support. Lastly, we would like to thank the R.O.S.E organization and founder for playing such a pivotal role in helping us develop our relationship with God.
