We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarahi Henkel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarahi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
So for me, I never really saw my self owning my own business. Despite growing up seeing my dad as an entrepreneur. I just never really thought there would be an industry that would be able to give me the freedom to use my creative and artistic side and at the same time be able to turn that into a business. When I first started it was really just a hobby. This turned into something more than just a hobby when I realized the potential for creative freedom. We’ve grown so much in the last year and a half, we’re actually hoping to open a small shop in the near future!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make fun whimsical candles! I love the scents that fill up a room and the way people react when they realize they’re looking at a candle. It’s so fun to connect with people that way. My journey here has not been easy though. Making candles comes with a lot of challenges, everyone thinks its just adding a wick and a nice fragrance and you’re done. But making a quality candle takes time. I’ve been experimenting and testing for about a year and a half and I can finally say with confidence that I know what I’m doing. So now the fun part really starts because I get to enjoy creating without so much of the stress. There’s still so many ideas and fun projects I have in mind, and hope to be able to share my art with as many people as possible. I’m obsessed with the quality of my work because I want people to know they are buying a quality product, that’s what I want people to feel when they support my small business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely go to Farmers markets in our area, it’s always full of so many interesting vendors and fun things to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my family. My mom who helps me with my three kids. My dad who has always been there for me when a problem arises. My sister who is one of my biggest supporters. My daughter who is my photographer. And of course my husband who helps me make the candles and set up at local shops. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t have the love and support of my family.
