We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The largest misconception about brand photography is that it consists of just pretty headshots. It is far from that. Together with the business owner we curate imagery that matches their message. A photoshoot for an entrepreneur could consist of lifestyle headshots, combined with working shots, flatlays, and product imagery. All to showcase what it is that they do, how they do it and what they help their clientele with, in order bring genuine brand awareness.

Brand photography is everywhere around you, you just didn’t realize depth of it and process that went into that one image.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are so many talented photographers in the Dallas area! I am in awe of all of them. I specialize in branding and products and 5 years ago I had no idea it was even a thing. I started my photography journey in high school (don’t ask when that was) when I was learning on a film camera and developing it in a dark room. I kept it as a hobby, shooting only landscapes and later on my own children. While working as an assistant in the legal field, I realized my desire to be behind the camera wasn’t going away and I needed to dive into that more. I knew I didn’t want to shoot weddings or family portraits but wasn’t sure what else was out there for me. The minute I discovered branding photography, I immediately knew that was it!

I truly believe what helps me connect with my audience is my ability to create images that match their businesses unique message. Each business and their owner is different and should be portrayed as what is true to them to connect genuinely to their clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question because I’ve done this with my best friend visiting from California! I am based in the North Dallas area and my best friend loves to shop, so we always start at the outlets. then head to Legacy West. Grandscape is new since the last time she was here so we would grab dinner at Seven Doors and likely find some live music after that. I would also take her to Deep Ellum to walk around and enjoy the creative shops and bars. Another day would be spent on Lake Lewisville or a trip up to Turner Falls ending the day sitting on the patio at Fortunata Winery in Providence Village enjoying their brick oven pizza and wine.

There really is so much to discover here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A persons success is greatly influenced by so many things and people. My journey is no different, there were so many moving parts and inspiration that went into starting my business. I would not be on this path without the inspiration of my family and support of my Husband. I grew up in a family full of artists and entrepreneurs which, I believe, formed my appreciation for such a variety of arts and the hard work behind all of it. When my passion for photography grew into this business I had the complete support and faith in my abilities from my Husband. It would be nearly impossible to continue this without him! All business owners need at least one cheerleader and sounding board behind them. If you don’t have that around you and need it, reach out! I love supporting others.
