We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Norris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I love being creative in the kitchen and making food look and taste its very best. One Thanksgiving back in 2019 I took on making the charcuterie board and ever since then started having fun with it…It became a tradition and one Thanksgiving down in Miami, while enjoying my board, my fiancé and I started talking and realized there was a market to explore and elevate my boards into a business. We brainstormed the business name, reached out to friends and family and slowly started to build OnBoard down in Miami before moving to Dallas. My fiancé is a college football coach, so his career means we move around a lot! 4 moves in the 5 years we’ve been together! Having this business means with a little bit of dedication and hard work, I can take my work with me wherever I go. I worked full-time in Miami as a middle and high school English teacher, but am taking a break from that for now as I work on building OnBoard here in Dallas and begin launching a second small business venture that will launch sometime in the Fall. Irving’s Cottonwood Valley residents can keep an eye on their mailbox for “Stroll Cottonwood Valley” magazine full of local content highlighting their very own residents!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
OnBoard Charcuterie sources small business and local (when available) accompaniments for our boards (honey, jams, produce etc.!) Because we believe in the mantra “do less harm,” when it comes to what we put into our bodies, we source dry-cured meats that are not treated with synthetic nitrates or nitrites. We also source non-GMO and organic fruits/veggies when available and exclusively when requested. We strive to make the best decisions for our bodies and want everything we put on the plate to be the best of the best for our patrons and community. Besides this, we strive to make the best decisions we can for the environment by sourcing compostable and sustainable materials to package and accompany our boards.
Not to mention we are huge college football fans!! We love to deliver a sports/team or game day themed board.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in Dallas is Lower Greenville. Such a cute and local vibe down this way. My favorite bar…a special place, is just off this street, Truck Yard. As a CT native, I am picky about my pizza, best spot by far is Louie’s on N Henderson Ave. Bishop Arts is another great day trip. From local cigar shops, to unique and up and coming restaurants/ local shops…A great place to give business to the local community.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s so many people in my circle who deserve a shoutout. Our community spans states and timezones and despite the moves we make or ventures we take on, friends and family from CT, WV, VA, FL, PA, NY, NC and on and on… are there to cheer us on and love us through it all. My fiancé, parents, future in-laws, my brothers, sister-in-law and so many special friends keep me grounded through every season. Moreover our football family has and always will be a strong support system in our one-of-a-kind world. Not to mention, the many wonderful women in the football community who lift me up through the wild ride of “football wife life”!
