Meet Sara Welch | Sara Welch | Photographer & Studio Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Welch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have a lot of thoughts about taking risks in business. Maybe it’s because my dad was a risk taker in life and business or maybe because I have several business friends who are afraid to take risks but I am BIG on taking risks in my career because they have always paid off for me ten fold.
I obviously like to be calculated on the risk and have it be something I have thought out in some capacity and not just blindly taking big impactful risks. But taking risks has never let me down and I usually always wish I would have done it sooner because it always outweighed waiting around wishing things will land in my lap.
Buy the gear that will make you more money, buy the course that motivates you to get after your goal, invest in the random idea, book a weekend with your friends to strategize and make moves faster together – take the risk. Write it down, put it in the world and keep your eye on the prize. The prize can be anything. It can be slowing down, speeding up, making more, working less. But jump and don’t wait for other people or the perfect situation to make your move.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the a self proclaimed queen of candid moments.
I exist to set the precedent for more honest photography. Our world is so overly produced and edited, and I want to start the movement toward photography that tells authentic stories and expresses genuine humanity.
I have overcome many challenges and used every experience as one to learn from.
I wouldn’t say photography necessarily came easy to me. I have worked hard to become a master in light, documenting life, making art out regular moments and moving people with absolute stillness.
Along the way I have learned to always be honest. In your work, and in your words and to look in unordinary places for inspiration.
If there is something I would want the world to know about my brand and my story is that for me photography is not just about an image. It’s about telling a life’s worth of inside jokes and stories in a single frame. Truthfully. Authentically. So that we can revisit them– over and over and over again.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give Yessy who owns Oxford Comma Co. a HUGE shout out. Her friendship and our business relationship has transformed my business with her copywriting skills. Her company did brand voice + web copy for my photography business and we’re currently working on a huge copy project for another business and she has single handedly been my greatest investment in 10+ years of being a full time photographer and business owner.
