Meet Sara Hall | Barre + Cycle Instructor | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
How hard it is to hear the name ‘Peloton’?! Ha. But seriously, the fitness industry on the whole is still so largely on the decline. For good reason- gathering in numbers isn’t currently safe. I think that so many of us in this industry are doing the absolute best we can to maintain safety standards and abide by mask policies and social distancing that we are actually safer than your average grocery store. In a small group of peers that I’ve talked to, we have all lost 75% of our membership to Covid. This industry has razor thin margins as it is, and then the compound of not having high head counts, and still feeling pressured to maintain low pricing is going to send a lot of your favorites out of business. I think before I was in this business, I assumed that the high membership price meant that fitness studios were amazingly profitable. What I did not realize is that there is really high overhead because it’s such a high touch business. I live for someone saying my name in class and someone asking about my day and really meaning it. I don’t want to see that disappear. I hope we never exchange community and in person humanity, no matter what trials we have to overcome to experience it.

What should our readers know about your business?
I wake up every day most excited that my business is an expression of my purpose. I am here to help people believe in their infinite possibility. Currently, that’s through moving their bodies. I love to push people a little past where they thought they could be. To view and feel their true strength. My business is an expression of inward strength in the outward body. I hope and pray that each class is a life lesson and lesson on self versus a time to focus on weight loss or self hatred. I come from parents with serious health issues. My dad passed away in 2012 from cancer. My Mom is wheelchair bound. I am determined that I will make small investments into my body everyday and they will pay off. The hardest lessons I’ve had to learn in running my business is when to stop filling my own cup. Covid 19 pressed me to my limits. I went into pre-term labor with twins at 29 weeks and undoubtedly, one of the factors was my stress over running my business. I hate to say that aloud, but I am working on embracing it as one of the hardest lessons I’ve ever learned. No matter how much you want something, you only get one vessel. One body. And that body needs equal parts movement and rest.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d have to start with a walk on the Trinity River, right over by Hulen and Bellaire. It’s beautiful and peaceful, and shows off the serenity of the city. I’d stop into Accesion Coffee for some pep in my step, and Stir Crazy for a cupcake in my belly. If I were really hungry, Local Foods kitchen or Lettuce Cook to fill up on some vegetarian goodness, and then cap things off with a chocolate treat. If we’re talking a real exciting nite, Proper for a night cap!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Michelle Carpenter is the main lady I have to shoutout to. She’s a Seattle resident, but she went from a corporate employee to boutique fitness owner, and built this beautiful community on Mercer Island, WA. She took me under her wing as an instructor, and it was through my experiences at her studio that I first felt true belonging. I felt like I had finally arrived in my skin, started to hear my own voice over others, and realized there was more to life than the “straight and narrow” path I believed there was. I felt like I arrived as a more confident version of myself. I have her and her community to thank for that.
