We had the good fortune of connecting with Sana Haq and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Never in a million years would I have thought of selling cookies. I started out as a hobby baker, mainly using it as a creative outlet. I would make batches of cookies on my days off and bring them into work. As I got better, my coworkers and friends kept telling me the cookies were good enough to sell and that I should consider doing it professionally. I finally gathered the courage to do so this summer and am happy I took the plunge.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am proud of the work I put out. With each set, I get very invested and do not hesitate to add little details that may take longer, but give a beautiful result. I also love doing small batch cookies. Sets of 6 have been my favorite. I like the thought of giving custom cookies to a host, new mom, graduate etc. Cookies can be made very personal and I love doing that for my customers.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really love nature, I would choose a sunrise hike to start with. I like going to mom and pop places, little cafes and bakeries and like to support small businesses. I also like to cook at home, so planning a menu I don’t make regularly and cooking it together one day (think pasta from scratch).
I love Bubble tea and have been really liking Feng Cha.
The botanical garden for a photo shoot followed by high tea.
I have many interests and they don’t seem related to one another, but that’s me. I like a lot of different things.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out my family and friends for their encouragement and support; my kids for always being my wonderful hype-men. I also want to thank the online baking community thst helped me immensely with getting started as well as giving tips and tutorials online during the pandemic!
