We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Kristoferson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue a creative career because I was given a significant second chance. In the past, I prioritized work over my artistic side, believing that being an artist wasn’t financially viable or that my creative abilities were merely hobbies. However, during the first lockdown in Waterloo, Ontario, I retreated to my backyard office and embraced full-time creativity. The guaranteed basic income from the government was a lifeline that allowed me to flip the narrative. I shifted my focus to my well-being, happiness, and balance, giving myself permission to take risks and prioritize my artistic self.

This period of hibernation was pivotal. It allowed me to shed self-doubt and embrace bold decisions like renting my own studio, pursuing yoga teacher training, and delving deeper into music. I realized that the world craves our unique artistry and creativity. Each of us has something special to offer, and the world eagerly awaits to experience it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is about creating inclusive environments where people can come together and express their creativity freely. What sets me apart is my multifaceted approach—I’m a true Aries, constantly exploring creativity in various directions. I used to resonate with the saying “Jack of all trades, master of none,” which once felt negative. But now, I embrace the full version: “Jack of all trades, master of none, though often better than master of one.” This has been my transformation journey.

Being neuro-divergent has been a gift. I’m open to experimenting with different mediums and unafraid of failure. Taking big risks has often led to significant rewards. However, getting to this point wasn’t easy. Thirteen years ago, I made a life-changing decision to quit alcohol. I took a leap of faith by moving to New Zealand with minimal resources and a lot of debt, claiming I was allergic to alcohol. This journey taught me resilience and the power of conviction.

The most significant lesson I’ve learned is to trust my intuition. When I follow my inner guidance, opportunities unfold, although the choices may not always be straightforward. My brand defies categorization. I spent 12 years as a professional organizer and educator with KW Professional Organizers, a company I co-founded. Now, I offer personalized healing experiences encompassing art, music, divination, movement, and community gatherings at The Studio: a healing place. Our outdoor venue features a food forest planted collaboratively in 2022, symbolizing our commitment to holistic growth and community connection.

My story is one of transformation, resilience, and embracing diversity in creativity. I want the world to know that creativity knows no bounds, and healing is a multifaceted journey that involves embracing our authentic selves and connecting with others in meaningful ways.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For my best friend’s week-long visit, I’d want to create a memorable experience filled with connection, nature, nourishment, and personalized activities. Here’s how I’d plan our itinerary:

Day 1:
– Arrange transportation for their arrival, ensuring they have all the details they need.
– Welcome them to a serene forest with water, offering a peaceful environment for sharing and grounding exercises like walking, meditation, and sound healing.
– Prepare a nutritious and fresh meal, drawing from my experience in professional kitchens.
– Settle them into a comfortable sleeping space with thoughtful amenities for a restful stay.

Day 2-4:
– Invite them to a workshop tailored to their interests, such as pottery, kombucha making, or a peaceful bicycle ride through scenic routes.
– Explore local shops and experiences that align with their curiosity, potentially including plant medicine exploration or foraging for healing ceremonies.
– Plan downtime for relaxation and personal exploration, leaving intriguing items like tarot cards, feathers, and crystals to spark curiosity.
– Offer their favorite foods, drinks, and activities while also prioritizing moments of quiet reflection and connection with nature.

Day 5:
– Share a yoga session together in a tranquil yurt or special studio space, fostering physical and emotional well-being.
– Continue exploring local gems, whether it’s a hidden café with delicious treats or a scenic viewpoint for sunset appreciation.
– Allow flexibility for spontaneous adventures or rest as needed, ensuring a balance of excitement and relaxation throughout the trip.

Day 6-7:
– Engage in deeper conversations and reflections, perhaps incorporating journaling or creative expression into our time together.
– Embrace any additional interests or activities they wish to pursue, whether it’s attending a local event or immersing ourselves in cultural experiences.
– Conclude the trip with gratitude and fond memories, cherishing the bond and shared experiences created during our time together.

Overall, my goal is to curate a meaningful and enjoyable experience that caters to my friend’s interests, energy levels, and well-being, while also leaving space for spontaneity and personal discovery.
