We had the good fortune of connecting with SAL and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SAL, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The way I think about risk is….the greater the risk, the greater the reward. I didn’t pursue being a full time contemporary artist to just be “average”. I entered into this arena to be THE BEST to have ever lived. That means multiple years of homelessness, sleeping on park benches in Dallas to subway trains in New York City, eating maybe once a day… and that was a good day. Whatever it took to attain this dream I will go down the dark alleys. Thus, the things that scare and make others uncomfortable are the things I embrace, and most of those things are RISK.

Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is passionate, colorful, and slightly offensive. I’m most proud about the documentary being curated about my life currently, projecting a release in 2021. Attaining greatness is never easy, and that’s what I’m shooting for…to be great at what I do, overcoming challenges varies person to person, so I’ll hold mine close to the chest for now. Lessons I’ve learned along the way are: patience, hard work, and persistence(not in that order). I want the world to know about my story/brand is I wasn’t given anything in my art career, I’ve had to claw and fight for every inch, and through hard work I’ve created something out of nothing quite literally, and that I am, and will always be….THE GREATEST.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Glorias on lower Greenville for margaritas on me. Then I’d tell them to go explore because I’m not a tour guide or concierge

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Some wonderful ladies that I’ve known in my past that supported and encouraged me through the struggles. But THE most important woman in my life and my most influential throughout the good and bad Allison McCarthy. She is my angel, there is no “SAL’S FAMOUS” without her.
