Meet Ryan Stock | Restauranteur, Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Stock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Early in my career, the goal was to find some way in keeping everything perfectly aligned at all times—which, in hospitality, is an exceptional feat, likely not achievable in any real meaningful way. Over time, I’ve learned that balance isn’t about perfection—it’s about rhythm. There are seasons where work requires more, and others where personal life takes priority. Instead of chasing symmetry, I’ve focused on being present wherever I am—at work or at home because what I have truly come to identify is that there isn’t a balance. The balance itself, is being able to be more focused and present in everything in the moment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have had the fortunate opportunity of vast experience across the industry. This has given me an incredibly well rounded perspective on the business. Often times in hospitality, people get stuck in one particular segment of the industry. While this may develop them to becoming an expert in that specific genre of hospitality or restaurants, it’s often challenging for them to transition to an environment outside of that. With the industry being so broad in range; it’s critical to get experiences in different markets, in different segments and different roles. There are going to be challenges in every profession or career. It’s all about the mindset in which you take on those challenges that will dictate your outcome and subsequent development. Challenges, issues & failures are where the opportunities lie. I have come to embrace this and put my focus on maintaining a positive and optimistic approach, always.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is tough, but it’s hard for me to imagine spending time in Dallas without a dinner at Nick & Sam’s. Aside from Sam being a good friend; the food is great and it’s all about the fun environment. The team is on point with service and you can be sure that there is always going to be a great vibe! Bowen House is a super cool spot for late night drinks (aside from Ginger’s of course) and doing pre-dinner drinks at Monarch is perfect, especially at sunset with an incredible view of the downtown area.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Its hard to imagine anyone building anything meaningful alone. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have been surrounded by so many fantastic people over the years. I owe a lot to the teams I’ve worked with —chefs, partners, operators—who helped give me the foundation for the countless experiences I have gone through, throughout my career.
I have had so many leaders over the years in which I have looked up to, learned from and developed under in many different ways. However, the shoutout goes to my Mother and Father; they instilled in me the importance of hard work, focused effort and initiative. The skillsets I learned over my career were ultimately taught. However, because of my incredible parents I always understood the utmost importance of treating everyone with true and genuine respect. When you make people feel good, they enjoy being around you. When people enjoy being around you, all sorts of opportunities arise. I would not be where I am without these critical intangibles that I got from my parents very early on.
