Meet Ryan Bourgeois | Family Nurse Practitioner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Bourgeois and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Teaching them to have faith. When leaving my previous company, that was paying well, to start a new company of my own my two daughters asked, “how are we going to pay for everything?” I quoted Matthew 6:26-27 ‘Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable?’
Starting my first and only company is by far the largest leap of faith I’ve taken in my career. I’m extremely happy that I did because it has changed the lives of me and my family. I constantly remind my daughters of the leap of faith taken hoping they too can see that work plus faith equals success. Jame 2:26 ‘Faith without works is dead.’

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First off, as a teenage in school I won multiple awards for my drawings with pastels, etching, and charcoal. Close up portraits of women was my favorite pieces to work on. Now I get to work on the real thing. The face is my canvas.
What sets me apart from the others is my natural ability to look at a face, assessing it, and determining right then and there what the patient needs whether it’s restoration, beautification, or a little of both. I’ve never done anything else in my life that feels so instinctive.
After being a Registered Nurse for 15 years and going back to school to become a Family Nurse Practitioner is what I’m most proud of. It was no walk in the park, so to speak.
Patient safety is by far the most important lesson learned along the way. Though Neuromodulators like Botox can wear off, which is good, you still have to remember that this is medication and can still have potential adverse events. Dermal fillers like Juvaderm or Restylane is also considered a medication and can be extremely dangerous if injected directly into an artery or vein. All the procedures I do have potential risks so I can’t stress enough about the education needed to protect myself and the patient. As stated on my webpage www.bougieaesthetics.net, my mission statement says “To implement exceptional aesthetic treatments that produce a desired outcome without compromising safety and wellbeing.”
What’s most exciting about what I do is the response I get from patients. In my 15 years of being an RN and working in the emergency room I’ve saved countless lives. It’s a rush like you wouldn’t believe. I get that same feeling when a patient looks in the mirror for the first time after completing the work I’ve done on them, or when I get spontaneous text messages thanking me. Getting those random messages and pictures of them telling me and showing me how happy they are is why I do what I do. My most favorite is when a woman starts shedding tears of joy right then and there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places to eat is at Moxie’s in Southlake. It has healthy food choices, tasty cocktails, and an outside area for beautiful Texas days. I live in the North Fort Worth area so I’d have to say that downtown Roanoke is a fun place to hang out. Chop House has live music on a large outside stage and the bar area looks like the inside of a small aircraft hanger, Craft and Vine is an upscale restaurant with and amazing view. The original Babe’s Chicken is downtown. Hard 8 is hands down one the best BBQ places ever. On the weekends they have a farmers market with local venders.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout out to a Dallas local named Kearney Pickett who is also a Family Nurse Practitioner and owner of KLP Medical Aesthetics. She was my very first instructor for performing cosmetic procedures on patients. Since then, our relationship has grown tremendously and she’s an amazing mentor. When getting into an industry that you don’t know anything about it’s imperative to have guidance and support. So blessed to have her in my life.
